About to "soy up" this thread @Dandolin. Stupid question... what is the price? That does change a lot. The SY300 was VERY EXPENSIVE when it first came out. The lowest I saw one sell for second hand was $350 (it was on Craigslist in Long Island... so while I 'could' drive there... it just wasn't worth it with traffic and tolls -> that alone would have added around $50 - $75). EDIT #1:

It's $1K!!! No prosumer / consumer is getting this.

nope
This sums up my feelings as well.

I admire the enthusiasm but there is just not enough substance that is 'synthesis' in this pedal. I always WANT to WANT to like a new synth pedal but boss keeps shitting the bed in application. I expound upon this further down.
The dudes in the video seem cool though. It's Rob Scallops but the Australian version. A+ for effort on the marketing end.
Dandolin wrote:is this too much guitar synth? still not enough?
is guitar synth even a topic of broad interest?
I don't think it is anymore (lol I just bought a guitar synth on Monday

) cause synths are so cheap now. I've said this a thousand times... you can get a Blofeld for $300 used now a days.
Dandolin wrote:i didn't like the demos for the sy300, but it was all just preset wank as far as i could hear.
The raw oscillators they give you control of in the SY300 just sound awful and not in an endearing way. It's like eating an old mayonnaise sandwich. It's bland and bad.

We've all see stranger things happen this past decade so maybe? I don't think anyone on ILF (I read everybody and anybody's posts... I know... you know that I know...) is going to get this. I don't know the gear page that well or talk bass. This doesn't seem like it would tickle anyone's interest in what is going to be 2020. I honestly don't think price will dictate it either because of stuff that is easier to use and cheaper (assumption).
Dandolin wrote:(personally i'm happy dialing in a vaguely synthy tone on lesser pedals and running them through effects)
This is objectively the correct answer. It bothers me when a pedal is marketed as a synth pedal and big feature is the delay. A lot of players (even off ILF) have like three delays at their disposal anymore. Why on Earth... I don't know.
Dandolin wrote:how about you?
just not impressed?
I really admire the enthusiasm and the tactile design. The sequencer is really cool too. But for a synth pedal... there is not much synthesis sounding things going on. I'm not expecting a sophisticated engine... just an engine that does sounds outside of effects boss already makes (WHOA WE GOT A DISTORTION AND DELAY... No No No... pretend you don't already have those).
Sorry, I'm all hoped up on cold brew and angst

On one positive note.. the filter sweeps blow the SY-300 out of the park. They really improved that sound.
