I need an amp that has better bass response
So I've been playing out of a Fender Hotrod Deville 410 for the past year and a half or so, but I keep on modifying my guitars to play tones with more bass. I tune pretty exclusively in drop tunings, and it handles those pretty well, but I just set up my baritone so that the lowest note is a bass D. Would it be an alright option to just get an extension cab for the 410, maybe a 115 or something? Or is there something that will do better that I can get for around the same value if I trade/sell the Deville? A head that will power a 412 and a 1 or 215 maybe? Thoughts?

I like the bass response from my Marshall DSL50, its not booteek or anything but it's been solid a solid as hell amp for me. Really warm cleans and takes fuzz like a champ.
There may be different things you can get locally that could be better (used market where I live is pretty dreadful) but it's worth considering, and would fit your budget. I always found the Fender Hotrods too trebly for my liking.

The HotRod sounds surprisingly chunky when dialed in right. But when I've played my baritone (which is tuned in fifths) through it, and I go to hit a lower note, it doesn't "boom" right.

Bassman or British derivative, cant recommend this enough.
Response and tone? Yes. Insane wattage? No.
Still sound massive.

Extension cab or something other than 4x10s would be my first stop.

Beat me to it, I say V4 as well. A 2x15 cab is awesome with the V4, but a bitch to lug around.MEC wrote:V4.

I will say that the extension cab would be PROBABLY the cheapest option if you can find a 1x15 used if you are a fan of the tone of the Deville. 10's paired with a 15 always have sounded good for me not liking 10's by themselves at all, adds a nice bottom end which seems like it would be perfect for you. OR if you wanted something a little tighter in the low end, you could go for something like a 2x12 extension cab and load it with bass speakers.

i have a music man 75 head that has a bass channel with a deep switch--it can really crank out the bass tones. i use an old bassman closed-back cab loaded with evm 12l classics. you may be able to find the head on ebay or in music shops. it has a solid state preamp and tube power amp and is plenty loud. it holds its own with a 65 twin reissue i use on one side of a stereo pair that gives a nice frequency spectrum spread.

What you need, IMO, is a good ABY switch and a bass amp.

Not knowing shit about the guts of amps....would a Deville take those? I'm assuming they'd help with the low end of the spectrum?Holy Schnikes wrote:KT88's.
I know that 410 can be a common bass speaker setup, and I have a friend who used to play through a 410 and a 115 with his bass. So getting an extension would definitely be the cheapest option, but I just wonder about the actual amp generating the tones I probably will need. It does basically need to cover the lower end of the guitar range, AND the bass range, if need be.

but like, V4 and a 2x15. Run far from open back cabs.

Re: I need an amp that has better bass response
4x10 on bass setups are (unless it's 1958) closed back cabs.
And even then are generally pretty bright IME.
