Fuzzrite

Post by Rygot »

So I decided to scavenge through my parts today and had the stuff to build a silicon fuzzrite on eyelet...

my fucking god I love the fuzzrite. The first time I played one I didn't like it so much but now it seems like everything I've been looking for...and with minimal cheap parts.

Any of our DIYers around here know of any good mods to fuzzrites? Figure I might as well throw a few more knobs and switches into it. :idk:

mosrite fuzzrite schematic
I'm kinda surprisd that you had a 350kc in your parts bin :idk:

there are lots of things you could do. I have never built a fuzzrite but it looks close enough to some other fuzz circuits I recognize.

you can add a 500k pot and a pair of 1n4001 where the 1m resistor is in the fuzzrite. works kinda like a clean blend in the wizard fountain. in the fuzzrite its just gonna add fuzz to a fuzz.

starving the collector of Q1 with a 5k or 10k pot might get you some gated sounds.

replacing the 10m with a 5m resistor and a 5m pot will give you more dirt from a mis-biased Q1.

you can put the different input caps on switches. use a parallel capacitance formula to figure the total capacitance. you should be able to get 3 settings from a spst toggle switch. the on board cap is in the center off position of the toggle. the other two are on the switch.

C2 is also a cap you can change. maybe on a switch again just like the input cap switch.

you can put clipping diodes on the output just before the volume knob.

you can swap the 500k vol pot for a 100k. changes the sound but I really dont know the details.

I didnt have the 350kc, I had a c in there though and thats what I used, I'll have to check back to see what exactly it was.

Thanks for the suggestions. :thumb:

Those pot values are wrong.
I measured a bunch of original Fuzzrites. The original Ge Fuzzrites used 500k for both
The Si/Sprague had 350K audio for both pots (at least in the 6 or so I've seen).

Hey, how about a switch to bypass the high-pass filter -- the 22k resistor to ground? That would change the sound a lot :)

I actually have the bypass mod already done.
Good Stuff.

I do know I used at least one 500k.

Just got a kit from Mammoth Electronics as my first pedal build, so I will be learning with you about the FuzzRite goodness! :!!!:

Here's the "HOLY FUCK I NEED HELP TO GET THIS BITCH WORKING BUT IM A DUMBASS SO I DONT GET IT" Post

how the fuck do I wire up the footswitch? The generic descriptions on GuitarPCB are worthless to me. I don't get it

I'd suggest a diagram on either culturejam's site or general guitar gadgets.

GGG has full offboard wiring images if that's your issue.
