Sub-$500 Offset

I have most of the offset line (Mascis JM, VM Mustang, VI, Jaguar), and had 'em all since they came out.

They are not going anywhere, as much as I love my now approaching a grand retail Classic Player Jag HH (with trem, not the bastard without) or CIJ '69RI Mustang.

Love my Squier VM Jazzmaster, but it's so damn heavy with the basswood body. So consider that.

I think the Fender Super Sonics are super under-rated. But you might find that you want to upgrade the pickups and electronics?

Can't say I've ever heard of basswood described as "heavy" before!

Mine range from featherweight on basswood (the guitars I pick up when I'm very sick) to average.

Did they hide half a kilo of something under the pickguard?

Maybe it's not basswood that they used in these. In any case, mine is quite heavy, but my usual guitar is an SG, so YMMV. Heavy guitars tend to give me back and arm/wrist issues after even short time playing.

Yea, I feel you on the "too heavy" thing.

I can't do boat anchors like I used to, even on a good day. Anything more than eight pounds or so just says "nope"

I'm leaning hard towards the Mustang. It is the right color, the right shape, and needs the least amount of work out of the box.

Yep. Absolute worst case, replace the bridge. $30 with a proper replacement Mustang one from Allparts.

Mine came with it (I knew the guy buying it, and made him give me dibs on the flip, he'd already replaced it). The original as shipped from Squier sits in a drawer, wondering what I'll find to use it on.
