I think Analogman makes a mod for it. If I'm not mistaken, it allows you to modulate the repeats via another pedal/processor. As for doing the mod yourself, I have no idea.
And it's not actually a trails mod... it's just cap switching, I assume being digital it's all surface mount in side the pedal, but I have been fooled before, but anyway, soldering Surface mount parts may be hard if you wanna do it yourself but he's just changing out a capacitor.
Build a true bypass box for it? run the return directly to the output have the 3dpt set to ground the input when not being used? Not sure if that would work but from my somewhat limited understanding it should? and you get true bypass.
