Hmm...guess I'll stop lurking here.

Seagulls are excellent guitars for the money, but I'd also look at the Yamaha F series acoustics. They are probably the best value under 500 dollars. The acoustic forum over at HC raves about them (ie don't take my word for it).

+1
Several years ago I was in GC trying out Martins just for kicks when I picked up a Tacoma and couldn't put it down. It sounded so incredibly full and resonant, even compared to the Martins. Best part it was only $400, couldn't believe it. I left with it and still love it. GC stopped carrying them but maybe contact them directly to find a dealer. I also agree with playing in person before you buy an acoustic and avoid ordering online.

I've always liked the Epiphone Hummingbird for a nice cheap dreadnought. I just wished they made it in a natural finish. The cherry burst reminds me of gross candy, and the black one looks fine, but let's face it, I'm no Johnny Cash.

+1 for the seagull s6 (get the cedar top!) I got a "blem" acoustic/electric model (tiny scratch on the top near the soundhole) on ebay for under $300. The street price for this guitar new is around $479 I believe, which is still a great deal. Even with a cutaway, you can probably still get a killer acoustic/electric for under $500.

I love mine so much, and the low end is better than most martins in general.

I really like my ROS-647 but I don't think Recording King makes a guitar with a cutaway.

Hey Ben, I think Bob's Guitars may have some Seagulls if I remember correctly. You could test some of those out there. :thumb:

I tried out the really cheap Seaguls. Very high quality, for sure. The problem was that they weren't very loud-- but this was the cheapest they make. Still a great guitar for the price. I bet the more expensive ones sound a bit better.
