Am I too late to this thread to say Small stone? And BEZ already got the talks, but it's seriously awesome. My two top phasers. I also have a Boss PH-3 on my board.. for dem crazy-er waveforms (stepped, ramp, etc...) and even tho it's digital, it sounds very nice! I don't use it in "normal" phaser mode, tho.
My Phaser Ranking:
-) Sovtek Small stone (the giant green bugger)
I've had the nano for a while, but it isn't as swooshy and dark as the sovtek.
I also had DarkAxels v1 here for servicing and it sounds different too.. I just like the green sovtek the most.
-) BEZ
Awesome wild phase toanz with a very wide sweep range that covers both extremes. I ditched my wah and got this. It rulez.
-) PH-3
As already mentioned - for the non-standard waveforms. Does the job amazingly well. I love it!

I also just noticed that my Phaser to Fuzz Ration is 1:1. That's why I need more fuzz.

My phaser recommendations...

It must be analogue. And try to get one that has a control to adjust depth as well as speed.

I strongly recommend the Visual Sound Oil Can phaser from their garagetone series. Excellent phaser. It's based on a mid-1970s EHX Small Stone circuit. What's more, it's very cheap to buy new! A great affordable buy!

I also have an Akai Intelliphase. I recommend that too, but it's discontinued years ago and not common to find.

Imo, both of the above are better than either an MXR Phase 90 or an EHX Small Stone.

Alternatively, one could also go down the univibe-type route. Insist on a lightbulb/photocell type circuit. The Voodoo Lab Micro Vibe is fine and simple, but pricey-ish. My bargain suggestion is the Danelectro Vibe CV1 (from their cool cat series) - lovely sound and cheap.

I like the TC Electronic Phaser XII. you get twelve stages (or 4/8 on the other selector settings) but it's SMOOOOOOOOOTH, not weird and whistly like the Faye Sing.

And with regard to the discussion above about a phaser with a wah-like treadle control...

Isn't the Dunlop Rotovibe that?

Or, how the Fender Phaser reissue? That has a foot-controlled speed.

After trying the SolidGoldFX Apollo, I'm hooked. I haven't played a TON of phasers (Phase 90, Faye Sing, Ibanez Phase Tone II, Whetstone, Tall Font Small Stone) but out of all of those it had the most sounds that could come out of it and was nice and compact

Oh. Why? I reckon you still need a phaser. :p

I've yet to encounter a flanger I really like. What did you get?

Speaking of which how well does the cosmichorus do flanger? I hate chorus and flange on guitar/bass generally but love and want it for my synth

Got A/DA Flanger (will receive it today).

Cosmi does a very light flanging which is cool.
Check my vid of the FH Magic Meter (in my sig), you'll see what I mean.
