I've never owned a phaser but I think if I were going to buy one it would be this one:

I'm a simple man, I love the Phase 90 and the Small Stone, I don't like phasers with more than 4 stages.
The only boutique phasers that I really liked so far are the Cusack Tap A Phase, Solid Gold FX Apollo and the VFE Enterprise, the Empress Phaser is cool too but I only like it for wacky sounds.
Phaser is my favourite modulation effect.

Small Stone. PH-1r is one I've been curious about too. I don't own one, but I've played through my drummer's EQD Grand Orbiter, and that thing sounds great.

Grand Orbiter. Can be funky or lush. Very present in a mix without being overpowering (unlike the phase 90). I'm a bassist btw.
The faye sing is the coolest sounding phaser I've ever used, but I disliked it's filter-like low resonant peaks, also sat weird in a band mix. Definitely worth a listen tho, I miss the manual control of the sweep for sure.

Moogerfooger phaser for its features, versatility and sound.
Prophesysound Systems Infinitephase for being a phaser/sequencer that can do subtle phasing to outrageous unique tones/textures
Maestro Stage Phaser for its tone and features/simplicity
Not in any order, much depends on situation but these three cover a lot of ground

This is the only one I own, and... the only one I need really! Love it. Best $50 I ever spent on craigslist....friendship wrote:I've never owned a phaser but I think if I were going to buy one it would be this one:

I tried the Faye Sing... same as you, I didn't like that filter kind of peak.Fuzz_Pi wrote:Grand Orbiter. Can be funky or lush. Very present in a mix without being overpowering (unlike the phase 90). I'm a bassist btw.

I wasn't able to find a balance between clean and fuzz tone... fuzz was always too much boosted.
Other phaser I've tried is a Whetstone... didn't like the tone sucking (in the low ends) from this one.

Re: What is your favorite phaser pedal
I like em subtle.
My fave is the Ibanez Pt999. I bought the Maxon PT999 for roadworthyness and mod cons. It's not quite as good as the original, the sweep doesn't go as high, and the rate up full doesn't go nearly as fast. Which I found weird. But, it's perfectly acceptable for gigging.
I bought a Fay Sing. It wasn't transparent enough, to much of that mid resonant hump. I think I'm just not into fancy phasers with more than 4 stages.
Though I did just buy Scuffie's Xenon!

Ah good to know, and I was actually about to buy a Whetstone to try it out.sylnau wrote:Other phaser I've tried is a Whetstone... didn't like the tone sucking (in the low ends) from this one.
Also, has anyone here that's tried a BEZ care to comment?

I had the BEZ.
It was good, but didn't like the wah enclosure format.
And I'm more into vintage phaser sound at the moment.

Re: What is your favorite phaser pedal
I dig the Subdecay phasers but a way more modern sound. Its really hard to get into a phaser and not dislike it every other time you play it. At least thats my experience

V interested in this thread
Small stone nano had a good sound but a little bit of a volume drop
I think I prefer small stone sounds to phase 90 ones

What are you looking for in a phaser, Syl?
What kinds of sounds do you want? Examples?
