With the exception of bands like Goatwhore, I think a lot of the NOLA sludge based acts are worth looking into. Thou, eyehategod, HAARP, Crowbar. Let me dig some more.

I think cause of proximity I have a distaste for most things NOLA...

Unearthly Trance and US Christmas YES, Royal Thunder a little bit yes...

If True Widow were heavier then I would like 'em moar, I like them but heavier plus they call themselves StoneGaze which I like...

I'm with ya on the "singers have to play an instrument. Uta from Witch mountain gets a pass on that. She rules and is very willing to discuss vocal technique/in ear monitors/random stuff with two weird dudes after a show. ;)

I guess I was looking for the new shit that is making Doom what Doom is nowadays or something... I know Conan aint the top band but they are old men and came out of nowhere and I really dig the Heavyies they bring...
