So I really like the Heaviness and Slowness of Doom but not the theatrics or trappings of modern Doom... What are some bands that play real Doom that are just normal guys not frontin??? Something along the lines of Conan or Ufomammut (Space Doom) or Eagle Twin or newer Neurosis...
I know I'm using the term Doom loosely here but I think you know what I mean...
I like Rons band and some of the other bands yall are in so I knew yall could help... DoomGaze that's not fey is a plus...
Subrosa (cool doom with violins involved), Lumbar (Mike fuckin Scheidt involved), Inter Arma (Neurosis-y plus some black metal and other influences), Noothgrush (split with Coffins is awesome), Samothrace (beautiful, spacey doom), Kongh (big influence on current YOB) have all come out with somewhat recent stuff (like past year or so) and all sorta fit that mold/non-mold.
Yeah I like YOB... Can't do Subrosa or Samothrace or stuff with that Black Metal voice...I want real guys that smell and drink and will probably fuck your girlfriend in their van between bands type of stuff... The cryptic images and weird writing and look at me I'm dark stuff don't work for me... That Lumbar is along the lines of what I want but the vocals are a lil girly... I'm not sure what Morne is but stuff like that is cool...
You don't like cryptic imagery but you like Eagle Twin? You know that their entire first record is based on a cycle of poetry by Ted Hughes, right? Don't even start with Neurosis....

Cryptic imagery is cool; I guess I just don't want cheese???
Ron Rippers band is great, smoke a ton... I want the real deal stuff, guys that live it and are not just tuning low and jumping on the bandwagon... Theatrics are a no go for me, guess it's Austin...
I love Neurosis cause it seems at any moment Scott might jump off the stage and punch a fool, danger and Doom go together...
If the "real deal" necessarily includes smoking a ton of weed and looking like you might be partial to random violence, I got nothing for you. I tend to make my musical decisions on unimportant shit like the actual music.

If you like cleaner singing over doom stuff, I again echo Pallbearer. I would also like to mention Bloody Panda, because Yoshiko Ohara's voice is hypnotizing. Also, check out Windhand. Some of the most solid dudes and dudette ever, vouched by the skullyman.

YES, from your CD of the month... That's what I want... I guess singing is what throws me off, no Ghost or stuff like that...
I hate that Stoner is a genre but I guess I like Heavy Stoner Sludge with an edge if that's a thing... Buried vocals and maybe some slight Black Metal is ok, I like most of WITTR...
Of course there are countless more, varying degrees of heaviness.

Ancient Warlocks of course; that's what I was looking for, APE BLASTER... Karma, Acid, and Black Pyramids YES... Not so much Witchcraft or Witch Mountain cause of the "metal" vocals, also singers have to play an instrument...
Funny story. Every single time I saw Inter Arma play when I lived in Richmond, they played a different set with different songs. One week I saw them 3 times at 3 different shows and the sets couldn't be more far apart. First set was with Krallice and they played some slow black metal with some sludge, then a house show where they played a single 45 minute long song that was the definition of epic, and then the last set was pure sludgy doom and ended with a 12 minute Sleep cover. Holy shit those were the days
