buzzy fuzz

you know i love the fz-1s, but having a stomp switch to toggle between the two fuzz tones is reaallllly nice. i'm diggin that about the beebaa. the ace tone fm-2 also uses one stomp for between the fuzz tones. i wonder if there's a fz-1s clone with set up as such? that would be the tits.

the guy at ace tone went on to start roland. i think the ace tone fm-2 could be considered the design the beebaa was based on. and the ace tone is more of an octave fuzz to compete with the superfuzz....i'm really starting to gas on the ace tone. i like octave pedals.

ok so between the bee baa and fz-1s, which would you pick as a fuzz?
and this is if the fz-1s has the same fotswitches like the bee baa to control fuzz tones.
almost ready to be done with this research. but always another door opens...

Acetone FM2 is a superfuzz variant. Bee Baa circuit is totally different. They just have footswitches that choose the normal tone or a mid scooped one....

BeeBaa's aren't buzzy really, they're like a muff with the superfuzz tone switch. Sustain basically starts where a muff ends then goes into singing violin overload. See any Boris solo, that Triangle Muff kinda vibe.

That said, until I got my Matamp, I ran the sustain knob at zero on my BeeBaa on the non-scooped setting and that was my gnarly rhythm tone. Which sounded remarkably similar to the amp. That toothy ormat preamp sound that the Pharoah does so well.

A buzzaround clone would totally cover the ground between buzzing vintage fuzz and singing muff territory.

Jordon Bosstone is nicely buzzy... anything with a voltage starve?

I was thinking the same thing. Muffs and Maestro FZ-1-style fuzz boxes are very different creatures, but a Buzzaround might be a good compromise. There are a couple up for sale here, I think. Another cheap option might be a Pep Fuzz clone. At low gain the Pep Fuzz gives a very gated buzzy fuzz, but when you open it up there's way more sustain. A WEM Project V fuzz like the Ghost Effects Warmjet would also do the job (the twin bias knobs mean you can get really gated or Muff-like sustain) but they're a little more expensive.

Thanks for clearing that up. I'm just learning about ace tone these last few days, nice to get some good info. the demo's only give a suggestion. If the fm-2 sounds anywhere near my shin-ei fy-6 in person, then I want one

now......not sure why i didn't think of this earlier, but you might dig the shin-ei fy-2. not a lot of variety to its tone but its pretty fuckin awesome. i wouldn't say its more what you're looking for than the fz-1s, but the more you know

but still leaning to the Double Beat paired with the FZ-1S
and the rest of what I have going on:
pharaoh - muff variant fuzz low gain
supercollider - muff variant high gain
iron pig - rat clone
blue box - octave down fuzz
fuzz stang - old broken fuzz with attitude
and a couple of boosts - lpb1 and the mole
and for octvave control the bass micro synth

I've never heard his builds, but from what i've seen his casework looks so Super talent.
But...I've got a penchant for original vintage gear. I also like to play around with the gear first if possible, and a good friend who's a vintage gear dealer that almost always comes through saving me monies.
