I'm definitely not going to argue with you on that one, as I'm not an authority on either early Isis or early Neurosis, as I'm not really a fan of either one's early stuff. I've tried and just can't get into any Isis before Oceanic, or any Neurosis before Times of GraceD.o.S. wrote:Eh. Early Isis and early Neurosis (who are, for all intents and purposes, identical to early Isis) definitely have links to hardcore and punk, especially when you look at bands like Amebix and the whole Crust scene.bigchiefbc wrote: I would not call either Mastodon or Isis post-hardcore, especially not Isis, there is really no punk to them whatsoever. They are definitely post-metal, and I probably wouldn't argue with someone calling them either post-rock or progressive metal.
If you're talking about, say, the Bad Brains, then I can see where you're coming from.

I really like We Were Skeletons. They are breaking up, but Blame & Aging was one of my favorite albums last year.

TAAS rules, Drive like Jehu is fuck yeah, but TOUCHÉ AMORE SUXXXXXXX
GOD. SO WHINY.
Also, a lot of bands mentioned here fall into the category of screamo (Orchid, We Were Skeletons, JR Ewing, etc). Have you ever heard Pg. 99? Or maybe Saetia? Or Adobe Homes, Texas Instruments, Moths, or anything on Chug Life.

Haha! Yeah. I figured they wouldn't get much love around here, but I like them and figured I should mention them.theavondon wrote:TOUCHÉ AMORE SUXXXXXXX

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks this. Orchid, post-hardcore...really?theavondon wrote:TAAS rules, Drive like Jehu is fuck yeah, but TOUCHÉ AMORE SUXXXXXXX

I thought that post-hardcore vocals lean way more singy, commonly speaky, less screamy.
Sometimes, sure...but not that throat-shredding wildness in every song.
Edit: ALSO WHINY IN MUSIC IS THE SUCK

Post-hardcore is really maybe the most vague genre ever. But, yeah. Almost all of the bands mentioned here are totally rad, regardless of genre.

Slint, Shipping News, Seam, and a lot of the bands on Touch & Go / Quarterstick records at that time kickstart my interest in post-hardcore.

Seam is so good...cant believe I mentioned Bitch Magnet and neglected to mention SooYoung's other seminal band...
A Headsparks tape (yes tape
) helped get me through some very dark days...weeks...months...and apparently I'm not the only one, as someone commented similarly on this song, the crown jewel of [Headsparks]

Someday I will cover this tune. That's how you end an album, f'real.

Post-hardcore really is so vague. I was thinking of a bunch of responses for this thread and then I saw the list of bands people were talking about and I was like "Oh, I guess not the 'post-hardcore' I meant"
Stupid need to fit things in categories!!!

Mission of Burma, Gang of Four, and Wire were the original post-hardcore bands, no?
