Thanks! I have a strong commitment to black coffee.kbithecrowing wrote:^haha your avatar is awesome.

Eh. Early Isis and early Neurosis (who are, for all intents and purposes, identical to early Isis) definitely have links to hardcore and punk, especially when you look at bands like Amebix and the whole Crust scene.bigchiefbc wrote:I would not call either Mastodon or Isis post-hardcore, especially not Isis, there is really no punk to them whatsoever. They are definitely post-metal, and I probably wouldn't argue with someone calling them either post-rock or progressive metal.Tristan wrote:Don't know whether it's in style but Mastodon gets mentioned over on Allmusic being Post Hardcore as well.

In that case I think Isis could also be mentioned, but one would probably file them under Post Rock / Post Metal.

I find Converge to be pretty cool as well, quite apart from other Hardcore / Post Hardcore bands soundwise I think, and they Rock live, as does / did Isis.

In the documentary Blood, Sweat and Vinyl one of the members of Neurosis talks about how Amebix, Black Flag and Void were all big influences on their sound and aesthetic.D.o.S. wrote:Eh. If you're talking about, say, the Bad Brains, then I can see where you're coming from.

That's the one! I just watched it a few days ago. I'm new to a lot of those bands (I know, I know). Really gives you a picture of the fluidity of those bands and labels.D.o.S. wrote:Oh man that's one I've been meaning to watch, that's the Neurot/Hydrahead/Ipecac(?) docu, right?

I think those two would fit in here and haven't been mentioned yet

I'm really digging the newish crop of post-hardcore bands. Guys like Pianos Become The Teeth, Defeater, Balance and Composure, and Touche Amore.kbithecrowing wrote:![]()

I was thinking of mentioning Pianos Become the Teeth but I haven't listened to them much. Need to do that.

I'm definitely not going to argue with you on that one, as I'm not an authority on either early Isis or early Neurosis, as I'm not really a fan of either one's early stuff. I've tried and just can't get into any Isis before Oceanic, or any Neurosis before Times of GraceD.o.S. wrote:Eh.
