it sounds even better when i pair it with another effect.. or several others.
set it to a slower setting and maybe back off the depth a little and it just adds a great coloration to your sound.

Out of the few phasers I've tried, I've only ever gotten along with Subdecay's. They've had like 4-5 different models but all similar tones. It's so usable and less... going through a wormhole sound with a bunch of gain. As you can tell by my signature, I want another! But I'm kinda picky about phasers (I'm not the biggest fan of them...)

My current phasers are an EHX Small Stone(the third pedal that I ever bought, and still my favorite phaser), a DOD Phasor 201 which is basically an MXR Phase 45, and a DOD Phasor FX20 which is a weird phaser that can make some awesome sounds in combination with other things.

I'm a complete phase-a-holic but also mostly seem to like the classics, the Small Stone for a deep and heavy swoosh and the Phase 90 for subtle stuff, tried quite a few boutique ones but in my opinion they could never match up against these classics.
Right now I have a Subdecay Quasar DLX but I actually don't really like it as a phaser, too dry and clean sounding, it's just not watery and/or dirty enough, I only have it because in my opinion it's the best step phaser on the market (which is a whole different thing), it does a decent vibrato too and it sounds cool if you use an expression pedal to control the depth / sweep.
It also does better with dirt than quite a few other phasers I tried (not too much swoosh / ugly high frequencies).

Phasers / Vibes that haven't been mentioned here but might be interesting (still on my list to try):
4ms Phaseur Fleur / Phaseur Moire, Black Cat Vibe, Pigtronix EP-2, VFE Enterprise
Oh yeah, there's quite some people enthusiastic about the old Ross Phaser, DOD seems to have made nice ones as well and the Ibanez PH99 must also be quite brutal, if you're looking for a less common second hand one.

I have #10, and it is never leaving me.

It's a really versatile phaser, and it sounds great.
It is however, expensive. That might not be what you're looking for.

when I get a phaser finally, it will be a Whetstone.

i'm not a huge fan of phasers, most of which are either too thin or too wobbly for my tastes. if i were to go for a standalone phaser i'd get an old TC Electronic Phaser XII if i was feeling spendy and a PM7 if i didn't. i had a script Phase 100 which sounded great but was just too overwhelming. i have a Street Sweeper, which i'm still figuring out but which is great for slow sweeps as well as for creating PAINFUL resonant peaks over single notes. the Phase Shifter settings on the Yamaha rack mounts are much better than i expected, and i sometimes use them to get my David Gilmour rhythm playing on.

i stupidly sold my whirlwind orange box. that thing was a perfect balance between sweet and aggressive, with a nice little distortion when i really dug in (med-low output pickups). had a maxon pt-9 pro, sucked, too thin and the phase effect was somehow too separate from the guitar tone, almost like a wet layer over dry instead of one fully wet tone. maxon ph-350 i got on tgp for like $220 (a lot of good deals if you hunt there) was pretty good but i thought only the 4-stage mode was worthwhile. now i own a handsome classic pt-909 that i still haven't had time to try.

although I have and enjoy(ed) my Phase 90 for a long time, it's non-true-bypass in the worst of ways, usually I could care less. But the Phase 90 really "sucks-tone." I'd like to do a true-bypass and phase 45 mod to it soon. I would not recommend a stock Phase 90.

the small stone nano's... man oh man, I've never had one personally, but the one that I heard was the worst sounding phaser EVER.

I've sung the praises of the Subdecay Baby Quasar far and wide, especially when used on bass. Freq + voice control = tonal flexibility!

Sadly, they're no longer in production, though Subdecay now has fancier Quasars available. Maybe you could find one on evilBay if you wuz lookin'.

Edit: while I aven't tried it myself, I've heard good things about the EQD Grand Orbiter.

Haven't felt the need to try other phasers since getting a baby quasar
Got mine on evilBay pretty much brand new for $70, I'm sure others will pop up from time to time
It just sounds 'right', you can really fine tune things with the freq/voice knobs
