For many years (mid 90s) my main drive pedals were a sovtek green russian and the vintage rat. I recently sold my green russian after going with a Black Arts Toneworks Sarcophagus fuzz (pharaoh and LSTR). The LSTR got me the green muff tones in spades, no issues there. I absolutely love the pharaoh side.
Here's my current work in progress. I play a 96 SG Standard or a modded telecaster w/duncan 59/jb's as my main guitars, into a 1965 Fender Tremolux with oversized speakers in the cabinet. My input is straight in, no fx loop fanciness. Imagine a TC Hall of Fame reverb and a Mid-fi Deluxe Pitch Pirate on the top left side. My amp has tremolo not reverb, so I the TC is the best option. I'm also considering a EQD sea machine or dr scientist cosmichorus for modulation but the DPP has scuzzy analog delay which I would probably use a lot.

I was playing this current setup a lot this week and the EQD monarch sounds great on its own but really redundant with stacking. I'm looking for possible replacements. I dig my rat for its bite on the end, or running the LSTR or Pharaoh separately into it. I'm considering a BAT Black Forest in front of the sarcophagus. Anyone have any advice for some overdrive/fuzz that stacks nicely into the LSTR and/or Pharaoh some color? I play fuzzy psych rock or stoner/doom generally. Please do not recommend a timmy to me, I already have plenty of clean boost between the tone job and the buffer+! I want something with character, man!
I don't think I'll get rid of the Monarch because it is an awesome pedal - will just get assigned to adhoc instruments
