Yeah, I mean, I like to bop around, and cannot stop myself from headbanging a bit to music that I like. Even some jostling and jumping is cool with me. But when I worry that I'm gonna get knocked on my ass onto a beer-soaked concrete floor? Not fun, nohow.

I get so focused on the music that even slight distractions piss me off. I've always thought that the more people move the less they are into the music. Think about any other thing you do. The more into it and focused you are the more still you become.

Nope. In my own experience of music, I totally disagree, 100%. I mean, I can't speak for you or your sensory experience, but I've been this way since birth. If I'm focused on music, some part of me is probably moving. That said, there are obvious limits - if I were in the pit, I would definitely not be focused on the music. But if I'm really feeling it and listening, I'll be tapping, or swaying, or head-bobbing, or possibly head-banging (not necessarily in accurate time/synch, mind you, but that's a whole 'nother issue).

So I guess that just means that if we go to shows together, we'll have to make sure there's adequate space between us that my focusing on the music doesn't impede your focusing on the music! We can meet back up between sets for beers and to compare notes.

So long as people aren't constantly knocking into me I'm fine. My ideal though would be everyone sitting and quiet. Being able to see what the musicians are doing (musically - as in like what their hands are doing) is to me a huge part of live music. I like to not just hear the music, but be fully aware of the creation of the music as it's happening. I guess I'm a lot less about the feeling and a lot more about the mental aspect of music. Or rather, the mental aspect is what makes me feel. I feel as a result of thinking, not apart from it. If that makes sense.

I totally agree, just in my case the visuals are either between headbobs, or while my hands are tapping out rhythms. I've been at shows where the audience is completely still (rock shows, folk shows, "modern music" shows), and they almost always feel weirdly stifling to me. Maybe a total drone show would work out with that kind of a vibe, but even then I suspect I'd end up giving in to kinesthesia if I was digging the proverbial vibe.

That said, I totally dread being the one completely uninhibited guy who breaks into dance at the slightest hint of music. Awkwardness central.

Lol. I go to a lot of technical metal shows, and at those the majority of people are usually still. There's always like one or two people though that are dancing, and everyone else keeps looking at them like 'what the fuck are they doing?'

Every crowd's gotta have one or two of "those guys." Like the dude I mentioned who got TOTALLY SHUT DOWN by the woman he messed with at the edge of the pit - I knew he was going to be trouble when I saw him over by the bar, violently air-drumming to a random prog song played over the PA during Red Fang's gear setup. He had that look in his eyes that my dog gets when we've been throwing the frisbee a little too long, and he's just so wired up that he can't stop asking for us to throw it again.

EThey really sound sweet and I could hang out with coworkers, but all the other local bands on the bill don't sound that great, and I'm not super into metal.... & it could be fun, but I need to save money and already committed myself to go to a show in Buffalo Friday.... Torn. Probablu not gonna go, but might say fuck it...

If Indian Handcrafts were on this tour like they should have been I would definitely be there.

THIS WHOLE POST IS POINTLESS.

Black Tusk are awwwwwwwwwwesome! They clearly have fun up onstage. The guitar player practically turns into Captain Caveman, and the bass guy waggles his epic beard with impunity. There's a whole lot of pointing guitar necks out into the audience, and many, many, many people "throwing the goat" in the audience. And hundreds of excellent riffs.

Plus you get to chant "Six Six Six" or "Sick Sick Sick" really loud (a win either way):

EDIT: From this tour. HOTSAUCE!
