I mean how nice your guitar/bass collection is depends a lot more on how much you got in your wallet than any kind of creativity. While all these depend on you being able to buy shit, you can still make a kick-ass pedalboard for under $500 and you can make an awesome weird instrument for almost free if you're inventive enough.
I had reservations about these categories as well but others showed interest in having them over the single guitar categories so i put them up to give them a fair chance if thats what the people wanted. I also said that if we did do these you would be limited to one picture and what you can fit in there. There are a few members whose collections would take a page and a half to display everything, which is just too much from a logistical point of view for a poll.
It all depends on how far away you want to go to take that picture, right?
I would still rather have a single guitar/bass competition, because I could imagine people coming out of the closet with very cool stuff. Also it would mean you have to chose. And most of the higher priced instruments are less esteemed than a lot of the cheaper ones around these parts. After all we're not on some blues lawyer forum where you would have an endless parade of boutique Strats or vintage Paulas. Of course there will be a lot of Fender offsets in a guitar competition, but I am pretty sure that most or all of them are going to have something special. Mods, stickers, vintage flair, whatever. And i also think that there is going to be lots of variation in that competition too.
This kind of stuff is always about who can spend the most money in a way. Most of the votes went to either big and pricey or very odd and creative boards last year, but so what?
