BILF 2013!?!?!?!?! (the pregame thread)
Well due to the success of last years BILF contest I thought we could start prepping for the 2013 edition. We've been discussing some things in the old stickied thread but I felt that we should put this out to the masses to get your opinions.
First up is categories, we've assembled a list of possible categories and want to see what people would like to enter in. The idea so far is to have more than just pedalboard categories, so we've expanded the list to cover numerous subjects. If we go this route each person would only be able to enter one category, and there would be no Fuzz Master General, just individual category winners. And with the mods approval we were thinking the prizes should be custom titles for each winner. I.E. my title would go from "Famous" to "Best Full Rig Winner BILF 2013" We also need to decide how many overall categories we would have from the list below, my Idea was to keep it around 5 or 6 total categories.
So here's the categories to choose from: (this is by no means an all inclusive lit)
Cat 1) Full Rig (Amp, Board, and Guitar/Bass)
Cat 2) Best Overall Pedal Board (post count 250 and up)
Cat 3) Best Single Guitar
Cat 4) Best Single bASS
Cat 5) Best Newb Board? (250 post count / 6 months active time and under)
Cat 6) Best OMD (other musical device)
Cat 7) Best DIY pedal build (would require external and gut shots, and soundcloud demo)
Cat 8) Best Guitar Collection
Cat 9) Best Bass Collection
Cat 10) Best Guitar Pedalboard
Cat 11) Best Bass Pedalboard
Cat 12) Best Noise Pedalboard
Second thing I'd like to discuss is the time frame. I was thinking the picture submission period would be January 5th-12th (to allow x-mas presents and pedals purchased with x-mas funds to show up), with voting starting January 19th and running through the 31st.
Third, in the other discussion I was been nominated / volunteered to run this years BILF (which i think should be called "Battle for ILoveFuzz" since this year since it will encompass more than boards) and am willing to take this on, but if anyone has a better candidate or would like to assist me in this, any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
So what say ye oh mighty ILF?

1. Best Newb Board- I love this category, its like a welcome to the family
2. Best DIY Pedal Build- enough of us build or tinker here to be able to make something (I think that mods and bends could count as well for this category)
3. Best Overall Pedalboard- General enough and seems to work well
4. Best Full Rig- Not 'everything I own'- what you'd gig with
5. Best OMD- THIS could be the most interesting of all

Sounds great! I like the options presented this year, and definitely think that the "Best Newb Board" is a really nice "Welcome to ILF" sorta thing.
I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

I like:
Full rig: what you gig with makes a lot more sense than just throwing everything up there
Newb board: 250 sounds reasonable
Best old-timer board
Best other musical instrument: I'm pretty sure that there's a guy on here who uses a broken piano soundboard with piezo mics for stuff. My bet is that he'd win.
I did like the medium post category that we had last year, because there were big differences that could be seen shifting between the post size based categories.
The other categories don't really seem as fair for competition, generally speaking. I mean how nice your guitar/bass collection is depends a lot more on how much you got in your wallet than any kind of creativity. While all these depend on you being able to buy shit, you can still make a kick-ass pedalboard for under $500 and you can make an awesome weird instrument for almost free if you're inventive enough.
A seperate category for noise seems unnecessary around these parts

I had reservations about these categories as well but others showed interest in having them over the single guitar categories so i put them up to give them a fair chance if thats what the people wanted. I also said that if we did do these you would be limited to one picture and what you can fit in there. There are a few members whose collections would take a page and a half to display everything, which is just too much from a logistical point of view for a poll.

That makes sense. Another thing that would be cool is an explanation of signal routing for the pedalboards seen. Sometimes it's not very straightforward.

That's not a bad idea, we could request that signal routing be put in the picture, either written on a piece of paper next to / in front of / etc the board, or digitally in post. I like that

Agreed.
Wiring and arranging a board in a creative/functional manner is half the battle. Reveal that shit!
