I like Grovers. they just have a better feel to me than Schallers, Gotohs, et al.
IMO the only benefit to locking tuners is quicker string changes. i didn't find that they helped with staying in tune at all, and i think that the extra weight of the tuners fucks up the resonance of the string as well.

I've had the exact opposite experience. Having the Sperzels on my Warwick allow the strings to resonate a lot more, and hold the pitch that much longer. With a digital tuner, it's apparent to see that the needle on the tuner just doesn't move at all with Sperzels, whereas with a regular tuning peg (in the W's case, Gotoh), you can get that rise and fall of string pitch.

I love Grover, nothing locking. Smooth, stable, really solid feel. I prefer the "Keystone" shaped buttons but I have the "Bean" shaped as well. Good shit!

Re: sperzel/grover/neither
I just put a set of THESE on a Tele and so far so good.
They seem to me, just as good as the Sperzels and quite a bit cheaper.
The only problem I have with them is the peg is offset from the head a good amount and it makes you want to turn the wrong one when tuning.
I'm sure once I get used to it I won't even notice it though.

Re: sperzel/grover/neither
I have Grovers on most of my guitars, solid as rocks and pretty reasonably priced. It's worth spending a few more $$$ for good quality, especially if you're upgrading a budget guitar, you'll really notice the difference. Make sure the dimensions are right, avoid any need for drilling...
I use a little bit of powdered graphite in nutslots, seems to help.

Schaller makes some nice stuff too in a wide variety of finishes. Their website has satin chrome, satin nickel, aged copper, Ruthenium?, along with your standard fare. Gonna go with their mini tuners on my EGC, keep that weight down yo!
