mogami cable frustration(hate to do this)

got a bunch of cable in a work trade(along with some other gear)
some 40' down to 6"
probably 200' in total
i figured if i learned to solder, at least patch cords, id never have to buy em again
so im doin alright, and by alright i mean they work,for now,on the normal black cable
i stripped this one kind of cable with heavy sheilding(the outside braided copper shit,dont know what its called)
and it turned into a mess,unsoldered look like squirrel tails,soldered look like metal turds
researching found out there mogami,and expensive,and in some cases not recommended or preffered
about half of it is this stuff, and its bright orange
can you guys school me on what to do with all that extra outside copper shielding neutral wire(how to tame it and tin it neatly)
or its gonna end up in the trash a couple inches at a time
when i try and twist it it turns into a lump,oh like a dreadlock,a hippy copper dread,thats exactly what happens

I haven't had much experience with this sort of cable in particular but I do quite a lot of stuff with coax etc which is kind of similar.

Anyway so once you're ready to pull the shielding out of the way, use tweezers, or anything really thin and sharp - (maybe a knife but be really careful) and so dig it in at the bottom where you made your cut and pull up to part the matting (if it has any, you can probably skip this if it doesn't). You then should be able to flip it inside out but do your best to touch it as little as possible. Then go about and do your other stuff.. Lastly when it comes to the end and you find the shield too thick you can cut some off around the bottom but be sure to solder around the entire shield at the base if you do - to stop it coming loose.

It's best to use a chisel type tip for this sort of stuff too - and you may need to wind up your iron if you have temperature control.

so i dont have to worry about using it all then?
i was tryin to make a slit up the side and pull it around
but i can cut it at the bottom and get rit off half of it?
compared to other cable which has about 10 wires to pull around and twist up
this has 50-75?i was tryin to get em all in there
but is like half or less ok

It shouldn't make any difference when it's for just a short length. Technically more wires - less series resistance = best, but it's for such a short distance it doesn't matter. It might help to solder the shield together at the bottom if you can. I'm really no expert with this but it's how I'd do it anyway.

I used Mogami cable when I did up my pedalboard. That shielding is your ground. Just twist it together really tight into a braid of wire and solder it to the casing of the plug ends. Just keep twisting it over and over until it isn't a messy lump.

but as my bad luck dictates the stress in my life
the shielding in the cable i have is braided
almost like that flexible wrap he put around it
so when i strip it it doesnt just untwist nicely
im gonna throw up a picture

this is what im talkin about

i figured out how to deal with it
used an exacto knife an unbraided it down one side
next time im gonna use something round like a nail
to not get hard bends cause a couple broke off

problem solved
now i gotta get some of that fancy wrap to hide the orange
