I guess. The first time I actually listened to them ('cause, you know, even though they were a two piece drum/bass band on Hydra Head my early aughts were entirely consumed by OM) was when they opened for Tool and Waterworks had just come out. They were a three piece then.

And then on the Torche tour, still a three piece. Still rocking. :idk:

I mean, duh. They slay balls. And, you don't realize how much guitar is on waterworks at first. But, it's such a crucial part of that album.

And I actually still like them, even though they're a three piece. :poke:

Theyve always been a three piece. They just played their first ...what....tour i think? Yeah it was like one tour where they didnt have a steady guitarist. After that dale crover played the guitar parts and after kim the japanese guy then the dude from 400 blows...although i think he may have quit too....

An Evil Heat is probably my favorite HH release, if I had to pick.

Anyone else wanna chime in on that?

It's my favourite release by virtue of being my favourite Oxbow record which is (one of) my favourite band.

I've got a fair nostalgia bummer about this. In the late 90s they were pretty responsible for absolutely blowing my mind when all I had really been listening to was pretty bad hardcore. It was definitely one of those labels where you knew if you picked up something they'd put out it was probably going to be interesting, if not something that completely floored you, and would look and sound great to boot.

I haven't really kept up with what they've been putting out in the last ten years or so, but there's no way I'd be listening to half the stuff I really enjoy today if it wasn't for the bands they'd put out, that in many ways for myself and I'm sure a lot of other people were kinda gateways to more outre forms of music. Fuck I'd probably do the normal retirement plan for hardcore dorks and be into rockabilly or something awful like that by now. It sucks that they couldn't make it work. It sucks that there's a zillion Isis inspired bands around who are terrible. But I guess it's kinda cool that Turner's still making music and the label's folding with a really solid catalogue and reputation, rather than an embarrassing chase for what sells like Equal Vision or Victory or something.

I do feel very sad, I feel even sadder that it was so hard to find CDs when I was younger. I discovered the usual Pelican, Cave In etc back in 04 when I was 13/14 years old. I ordered a good handful of CDs during the week and i'll order some more in another week or so - though my OMG preorder and other merch was lost in the mail last time I ordered. :(

But like, better this than dwindling out like Jade Tree, or putting out just uber-hip crap like Suicide Squeeze, or shutting down without notice like Man's Ruin.

I had a funny feeling that Aaron fell out with some people around the time Isis folded and suddenly he was putting out almost all of his stuff on a new label and the remainder of Isis started a new band with Chino Moreno. Sucks to see, but I hope everyone's newer ventures work out better for all involved.

So what this thread is telling me is that it's worth picking up the Big Business megapack?

Definitely check out the Biz.

I had no idea Chino was working with some of the ISIS dudes. Color me excited.

And at least the Hydra Head dudes didn't just disappear like the Leafhound guy.

It's called Palms, and they're signed to Ipecac.

Deftones is also a band that I've never really gotten into, but should try. I'm assuming the albums to get are Around the Fur and White Pony?
