Pumpkin Butter

The PUMPKIN BUTTER is a sweet & simple take on a classic IC muff. Just a vol knob! (The Tone circuit has been dropped & gain is fixed for fuzziness (not high gain but fuzzzz. Stack for hi gain. 3 x 3 Clipping diodes have been replaced by 2 LEDs.) Sweet tone, low price!

Workin on clips! Pump Butt sounds like an IC muff with fixed gain, no tone circuit, & the clipping diodes have been replaced by 2 LEDs. Gain is fixed for fuzziness. Can be modded for higher gain. Bass Cement sounds good. ;)

If you want higher gain increase R3 above 470k. Reduce to 220k for low-med gain. 100k for low.

Socket on R3?

Totally. I'll start socketing it.
Users can mod it. For $10 I can add a toggle for gain. Trimmer for v2?

I've had at least a month with the Pumpkin Butter.

I now have one on my personal board! :)

Have a listen!

Just ordered one! Ultimately it's going to my brother, I think, but I want to have ample time to try it out.. hopefully he doesn't mind unwrapping it for christmas and then letting me play with it for awhile

So I tested out the Pumpkin Butter, and here's my impressions: I like this thing, a lot.

I normally run all my gain/distortion pedals with a volume pedal after them, so that I can prevent my modulation pedals from clipping. (Less of an issue now that I have better modulation, but that's how I roll.)
I put the pumpkin butter farther in the chain, with the delays, because it was easy to wire it in there. And at first I didn't think I was getting any fuzz out of it.. Maybe just a little drive? The I realized I had the volume pedal down and was giving it maybe 15% signal. I struck a chord and swelled the volume up. There's the fuzz! Cool!
What did I learn there? This thing is highly reactive to the signal driving it.
I haven't really had an IC muff before, but I've seen plenty of demos and played lots of other fuzzes. I think Mr. Wire was correct in setting the gain internally. Give it a try and see how you like it. The reason is: just as rolling back the volume cleans it up into overdrive territory, driving the pumpkin butter with something else really opens up the fuzz of this thing. In particular, it seemed to like my And Aardvarks the most (which was set up as an overdrive, gain all the way up and volume way above unity.). Sustain was killer. It also stacked well with my fuzzes, as a sort of "solo channel" on them. The only issue here is that the background noise factor comes into play, but I assume that's because there's so many gain stages in play, and nothing is wrong with the Pumpkin Butter.

Should you buy one? Yes!

I kinda wish I had got one for myself. Oh we'll. I think my brother is going to really dig it. He's had a NYc (black) muff that we did a Creamy Dreamer mod on, and he's gone through a lot of the Devi Ever pedals that I handed down to him, but I don't think he's ever had an IC muff-style fuzz, and I think it'll suit his current setup well.

Two thumbs up on this pedal! :thumb: :thumb:
