Back on the hair commercial: That has so many japanese cliches of beauty its amazing. The entire thing is based on the Japanese aesthetic leaning toward fleeting beauty, which dates back to Heian period Japan (circa 900?). the idea is that for something to be truly beautiful, it must be about to disappear or die. Hence the big to do about the cherry blossoms. Also the maple leaves (seen in this video). Fall is considered the most beautiful season in Japan, because everything becomes very pretty and then dies. You see the girl always slipping through the male's grasp. You could write a pretty lengthy college level paper on all the imagery that aligns itself with these Japanese aesthetics. and yes, it is beatiful, but no, I don't think this would sell much hair product in America. It's not too subtle (It is really anything but subtle), it just wouldn't align itself with many American aesthetic traditions.

I was thinking subtle by American standards, not by Japanese Imagery standards.
You know “apply directly to the fore head” and how the “wonder Bra” is modeled by some one who doesn't need it.

The commercial is beautiful.
