ILF Record Label-- Updated info in OP!

Post by Wes Mantooth »

The ILF Noise Compilation kind of got me thinking...

I was wondering if some ILFers out there would be down to start this project:
- I'm not really planning an official label of sorts, more just to give some unsigned ILF musicians a unified home :idk:
- It would definitely be a labor of love, no money involved for the label, if the band sells songs/merch etc. it'd all go to the band. I have little experience (one semester) with contract law and would just like to avoid sticky money situations.
- I'd be down to run a blog or website for the label and assist in online, DIY (free) promotion.
- I think it would be cool if some kind of graphic designer/web designer could maybe help bands make cool album art and make their Bandcamp pages look presentable. Also would be nice to make the blog/website look cool.
- Maybe someone to master recordings, if possible. I might try to learn to do this.

Like I said, this would be a labor of love and not a traditional label by any means, I just think it would be a cool way to get more ILF music out there :idk:

I'd love some feedback on this, my mind is wide open to suggestions and criticism.

The Team (so far)

Adrianlee- Promotions/management/general helpfulness
The Mad Owl- Mastering/Promotions
Jfrey- Design/Web Dev/ Promotions/Writing/etc.
grrface- helping with Bandcamp setup and design for compilations such as the Noise Comp in progress.

As far as bands or artists go, the plan is to 'sign' (no contracts involved though) a few bands and begin working with them on whatever they need. I wish we could take everyone but we definitely don't have enough people and I'd like to give each band/artist fair treatment so we can't be spread too thin.

The hope is to also have a basic website and blog in place to help linking the bands together on the label.

Again, if you'd like to help, please email me: eelfist@gmail.com

I can help with album art and show posters.

I'd love to have a home like that for anything I record that I end up liking enough to release officially.

If you're being serious about it, the graphic designer and web dev should get paid.

ilf music collective! we can help each other out with finding resources and tools to promote and further our respective bands. i agree that any service like graphic design or web development should be paid for, simple things like an ILF bandcamp page is easy enough though, i'd volunteer to build one of those. that might be pretty cool, we could use it for ILF-exclusive Singles, promo for album and ep releases, and link from the singles to the band's own page. set it up as pay-what-you-want with the money going to tom. i dunno, there's a lot of potential.
please and thank you.

I totally agree they should if at all possible, and I realize it is a lot of work. I'd like to pay them, and maybe I can give them a bit but this is more about the whole ILF community chipping.

I don't have the time or the money to start an actual label but figured this would be kind of a cool thing to help each other because I dig a lot of the music that comes out of this place :idk:

If no one does end up doing it then I can certainly run a blog for the label and that is free

Understandable, I thought the same thing because web dev and graphic design surely isn't cheap so I'm not really expecting anyone to jump on but if they do, that's awesome.

Anyone else have suggestions or want to help in any way possible?

i have VERY LITTLE experience mastering... and have local (california) resources in terms of web radio and FM radio for people here who have more song-oriented band stuffs...

there's a band here on ILF candy warpop. they're from vegas and i sent them to a local online radio station and they've been a featured band here a few times :)

i wouldn't mind putting in enough work that i am possible to do.

i'm decent at schmoozing and networking... i'd love to help out with this

:poke: ...as long as it's named anything connected to ILF and all, the bands might just as well donate some back to ILF and/or label, and keep it rolling, instead of making a few bucks for the drinks.

I'd be in for helping out in whatever way possible. Maybe some art, writing, etc.

Some thoughts:

A donate option could always be included, and that money could be divided among the people doing the work to run this thing, while album sales or whatever went strictly to the bands involved. It wouldn't be a lot by any means I'm sure, but just to keep things fair you know?

I like the donation idea, that would definitely help :thumb:

If someone thinks they could do a fine job running this, I'd be more than happy to hand it to you, otherwise I'll do my best to organize it. I just need everyone's help. I'll write a short business summary just so the idea and direction of the label are clear. As far as other positions go:
- Promoters, we'll always need these. If you have some connections or are just passionate about spreading the music, this is for you.
- Web Dev, I could probably pay you a little out of my own pocket to create and maintain a decent site to showcase all the bands and label info
- Graphic Designer, maybe just to spruce bands album art or Bandcamp page, hopefully I could afford to pay you as well.
- Mastering Services, just to make all bands releases more cohesive with the label. I definitely don't expect anything super advanced.

Anything else I'm missing? If you'd like to join in, send an email to eelfist@gmail.com with what you'd like to do (does not have to be on the list) and any other information you think I should know. Once this gets rolling, I'll start a blogger and make an ILF Records email that all team members can use.
