Leonard Cohen.
Hell, before he was a singer he had published poetry and has an extensive body of work. He is at once lyrical and blunt, and he is depressing in the best way possible.

YES. Honorable mention to John K. from me, because I don't listen to the Weakerthans that much anymore but his songs practically saved my life when I was younger. Few things have moved and inspired me as deeply as the album Left and Leaving.
