Hotplate are really good for this application. Just do not try the bedroom level stuff with them (=too much attenuation) - that castrates your sound.

i wanna get one for my new elk 4X12...
should i worry that a Superlead/bass would blow the 120watt cab? thems some AlNiCo speakers in there... ideas?

Yes, you should worry. Supers can often exceed 120 or even 150 real watts when cranked. Go for a 50 watter or strap a safe attenuator if you're gonna wind it all the way up.
