Although I might've go upward of that for a 200S if it was in pristine condition.

I completely agree. I'd like to own a Sunn, but for the price they have been going for lately....just not really worth it to me.

Oh how I wish to find a 2000s! The big daddy of my amp.

so there is a sunn beta bass head on local cl add asking 300 for it.

ive read they arent a very loud amp for giggin, but thats not something i do. but i do need it to be at least as loud as my 33 watt carr amp. what do you guys say?

id like to buy a cheaper head that sounds good (ive been readin that sunn amps fit that description around here) so i can spend more one cabs. but im contemplating goin ahead & shellin out for a nice tube head & building my own cabs. im a fuckin carpenter so i mean it should be easy lol.

pls chime in with ideas, im jonesin hard for a bass amp. im even layin off reefer so i can save more money haha. i want both funk & stoner/doom tones.

Sunn is phenominal but once I got my Mesa bass 400+ i havent looked back.

So much definition and detail for a tube amp, flexable as fuck eq and no amp
takes pedals better

You definitely won't find a 400+ for 300 bucks though.

On the other hand, you should be able to find a Peavey Mark head and one of their 2x15 cabs for 300 total.

I think it's cool Neil Young uses a 400+.

Also, another thumbs up for the Peavey Mark series (no XP series). I had an VIII, and it was relentless.

Older Hartke heads are underappreciated.

HA3500 all day! The toob preamp is pretty decent (definitely sounds better than the SS imo) and it gets loud quickly. The HA3500 on "5" is as loud if not louder than my 225-watt tube amp maxed...

yeah, definitely don't bother with a b2re, especially not at that price. if you can find an old SVTIII pro for <300, though, get on it. I got a blue text 90's one for $250, replaced all the preamp tubes, and threw a rat in front of it and haven't looked back since. its not the most gear- nerdy amp out there, but its an incredible workhorse. loud, fat, and very flexible- amp gain at half, rat gain 3/4's down, rat vol 3/4's up, filter 1/2. tone is beastly, and it stacks up great with other fuzz. I actually preferred this over the SVT-CL I used to use, and at less than half the weight and cost.

that being said, I also rented a newer SVTIII for a tour in june and had it fizzle and crap out on me. swapped it for a newer CL, and it did the same thing  . so be wary.

I would jump all over that and flip the cab if he absolutely won't part them out (you might want to try offering him around 600 for the head). V4's are awesome.
