Why is that? I feel like Explosions are pretty popular.

fo sho. I've never even listened to Mogwai, but I have Explosions...

But I'd have to say Sigur Ros tops them all.

Explosions are awesome too. Don't like Mogwai that much.
Also, Snovi are an awesome band. (it means 'dreams' if you were wondering)
http://snovi.bandcamp.com/album/snovi

When finding people to play with, I usually ask for their last.fm.
It's REALLY hard to find people that are:
-cool
-great taste in music
-willing to experiment
-open-minded
-know their gear and how to use it to express themselves
-don't mind playing at lower volumes (yeah)

Back here where I live, it's almost impossible, so I consider myself lucky as hell :yay:

I find it almost impossible to find people who like the music I want to play, and then it's even harder to find people that can play the music I want to play.

The band I want to form would play stuff like Ulcerate, Gorguts, etc.

By myself though I like writing stuff that's like Giant Squid, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Balmorhea, etc.

Tubes are meant to be pushed to the limit. Obviously being able to hear and control what your playing is necessary, but playing quietly is no fun. At that point you might as well just pick up an acoustic and Oasis/Plain White T's/Bright Eyes covers with your friend on djembe.

pushing tubes while you're trying to rehearse a fucked up part of a song and being louder than a LOUD drummer is indeed unnecessary over-killing. it's different when you're trying to create/improve something, and when you're on stage.
sry if my point was a bit unclear.

a band means working together, not against each other. people tend to forget that. :/

I dunno, I passively heard Explosions once a few years ago and thought "oh, they kinda sound like Mogwai/Sigur Ros/Godspeed!/etc."

Now they seem to be eclipsing all of those bands in popularity. It's a little strange. Like seeing Wolfmother used as a reference instead of Zep.

That makes sense. Explosions is more accessible maybe?

It's possible, I haven't really followed up on them at all.

On the other hand, if anyone in this thread hasn't listened to Mogwai, go check out My Father, My King and Young Team right now.

They're also absolutely ferocious live.

Bummer dude. I think they're playing Boston in October, though.

My Father My King as encore was mindblowing.

I have Hawk, Happy Songs, and Cody and am hesitant to get more of their stuff, but Mr Beast seems like a good album to get.

Yeah I think they are. If I have cash I'll go. I'm already going to a lot of shows coming up so I don't know.

Mr. Beast is awesome.
