God Is an Astronaut <3 Explosions are awesome too. Don't like Mogwai that much. Also, Snovi are an awesome band. (it means 'dreams' if you were wondering) http://snovi.bandcamp.com/album/snovi
When finding people to play with, I usually ask for their last.fm. It's REALLY hard to find people that are: -cool -great taste in music -willing to experiment -open-minded -know their gear and how to use it to express themselves -don't mind playing at lower volumes (yeah)
Back here where I live, it's almost impossible, so I consider myself lucky as hell

I find it almost impossible to find people who like the music I want to play, and then it's even harder to find people that can play the music I want to play.
The band I want to form would play stuff like Ulcerate, Gorguts, etc.
By myself though I like writing stuff that's like Giant Squid, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Balmorhea, etc.

Tubes are meant to be pushed to the limit. Obviously being able to hear and control what your playing is necessary, but playing quietly is no fun. At that point you might as well just pick up an acoustic and Oasis/Plain White T's/Bright Eyes covers with your friend on djembe.

pushing tubes while you're trying to rehearse a fucked up part of a song and being louder than a LOUD drummer is indeed unnecessary over-killing. it's different when you're trying to create/improve something, and when you're on stage. sry if my point was a bit unclear.
a band means working together, not against each other. people tend to forget that. :/
