Re: Favorite Delay & Why
Sounds ace, hope to try the El Capistan and Brigadier soon.
What about some new fucked up digital delays? I mean at some point we're going to want delays that aren't trying to emulate anything from the 1970s, but have some insane new parameters right ?

Re: Favorite Delay & Why
i am currently running (in order)
mxr carbon copy (great for modulated/unmodulated gritty analog delays)
boss giga delay (my jack of all trades, loving the warp and twist functions the best)
catalinbread montavillian echo (great phased repeats and digitally voiced to self-oscillate, making the oscillations interesting)
digitech digidelay (i have yet to hear a better reverse delay)

Re: Favorite Delay & Why
First thing that comes to mind is Strymon Timeline haha. If you really spend some time tweaking the el cap though, I think you'll find it's much more/cooler than just tape emulation. Personally I'm not even concerned with the emulation at all, I just think it's a sweet sounding delay. You can definately make the el cap do some distinctly digital whacked out shit if you play with it a bit.
Second thing that comes to mind is the Empress Super Delay. Super rad (like aquabats). I want one.
Third is probly the Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai. The SMMH is really cool, but I dunno the actual delay itself was kinda lacking to the point that the cool wacky sounds didn't make up for it so I sold mine. Ymmv.
Haha I'm sure ILF will help you find the gnarliest digital delays.

Re: Favorite Delay & Why
I've got a Kopy Kat delay made by Retroman its an analog voiced digital delay, these things make it my favorite delay it has an effects loop
a tone knob and an additional footswitch that lets you choose the length of the delay time with switches that can be flipped to make said delay
time longer, it also has a switch that lets you have whats in the effects loop only effect the repeats or just have the effect and unaffected repeats.
As far as the SMMH while being a very cool delay the thing that bummed me out was the VERY noticeable volume drop when it was engaged something I
read that the Line 6 DL4 also had but having owned two DL4's I've never experienced.

Yeah the volume drop was frustrating. There were a lot of things about it that made it basically useless in a band situation for me. I love listening to other bands (like mogwai) use them though.

Re: Favorite Delay & Why
SMMH - good call, of course. I agree, though, it's much better for the oddball stuff than just for great-souding delay.

I always had the Blend set a little higher or lower depending on the situation, so he volume drop wasn't there.

No matter where I tried to put the blend their was a considerable volume drop.

Re: Favorite Delay & Why
Are there any delays that do the quick momentary-switch oscillation like the Endangered Audio AD4096? I love the El Cap but this feature takes a few seconds. Plus the AD4096 has that cool infinite delay feature, and the echo, and...ARGH. Why is it $375?
Anyway, that switch. I think the Frequency Central Atomic Clock that was custom made for someone on here has something similar with its "Flash" feature.

Off the top of my head, I know the Solid Gold FX Electroman and DMB Lunar Echo both have oscillation stomp switches, fx loops, and aren't $375.

Outstanding. Emailed to get on the Lunar Echo list! Hopefully I will remember to save the money for that 3-4 months from now.
Still intrigued by the AD4096.

Electroman is a badass pedal. i'm really enjoying the Sitori Sonics Magnetic Repeater. it has a really nice range in the volume control, and the tone isn't that dark. great atmosphere in this box and it was built to Man or Astroman?'s specs!

Right you are
Basically you can engage it to push the delay into self oscillation, it's like a regeneration boost. Combine that with the LFO controls and you get some crazy whacked-out sounds. Love making noise by combining the oscillation of the Clock with the Leslie sim on my miniRRR
