Favorite Delay & Why
I’m looking to fill out my pedal board and I need a delay pedal. Looking at the Memory toy or boy, TC Elec. Flashback, Disaster Transport Jr., Malekko 616, or Way Huge Aqua Pass . Any others that should be consider?

Full of features: Flashback
Simple analog with great mod: 616 (Though it doesn't do that washy on the verge of oscillation thing SUPER well)

I have a Memory Boy and Toy. I like the Toy because its repeats are very clear whereas the Boy has darker repeats. They both have cool modulation on them and can do weird sounding things. And are all analog.

Re: Favorite Delay & Why
I owned two Malekko ekko's and both stopped working on me. The first one i got worked brilliantly for months then it just died on me, so i returned it to proguitarshop and got another. The second ones modulation feature didn't work so i returned it yet again and got the Tc Electronics nova repeater. Haha I'm figuring i just have bad luck. I really loved how the malekko sounded hence why i returned it for the same pedal
But the nova repeater gives you way more options for the same price as the malekko and it hasn't died on me....yet.

I have a memory toy, and I tweaked the modulation trimpot inside so it does this wacky pitchshift chorus thing with the repeats. Love it.

I have a Timefactor and I'm not using it to its full potential so I've been looking for something to replace it. I love the vintage and tape modes the most. The Strymon El Capistan or Brigadier units interest me quite a bit, but the Memory Boy also looks useful (and cheaper).
How close is the Memory Boy to the DMM sound?

i have the Flashback and love it. the Disaster Transport sounds lovely if you can get by with 650ms of delay time. a lot of places are remaindering the hell out of the TC Nova Repeater right now because the Flashback is displacing it in the marketplace, so you can find it for cheap. and if you like the particular things that it does, there's always a used Boss RV-3, one of which still periodically emits dub noises, timed echoes, and deep-space blips from my board.

Re: Favorite Delay & Why
If you are looking in the $150, or less range, I would go for the TC Flashback. I don't really plan on trying one anytime soon with a Brig and ElCap around, but I hear nothing but good things about them.
Both are amazing.
They are miles away. As someone who has owned both at the same time, I can say that they sound nothing alike. The DMM is my all-time favorite analog delay....... the MB sounds like rubbish in comparison. The MB is pretty good for wacky sounds using the modulation.

Re: Favorite Delay & Why
Deluxe Memory Boy. Because it's got a great analog tone on the delays, can do that runaway feedback thang, but with all the nice things you normally get on a digital delay:
tap tempo
subdivisions for the tempo
effects loop
choice of 4 different parameters that can be controlled by the expression jack

Sunny Day Delay. I really like the simplicity and the sound.
Plus, mine looks particularly good.

Re: Favorite Delay & Why
I'd wait around for EQD Dispatch Master demos before buying anything.
As for Malekko, both E600 models sound incredible and show up used now and again.
The Aqua Puss I tried sounded great if all you need is super short slapback delay, pretty limited.
The Flashback is easily the best option if you want several modes, small footprint, and an insanely fair price.

Deluxe Memory Man due to the washouts and the chorus/vibrato built into it.

I have a 616 and a DMM...... A one point I'd have said the DMM outright, now I'd have a hard time choosing........

Re: Favorite Delay & Why
I have a DMM (old version, big chassis) which has been heavily modded a couple of months ago (delay up to 700 ms, reverb mod, clearer repeats).
I really, really love it. Now I do not need to look any further re: analog delays.
I also own a strymon El Capistan which can provide you with an amazing tape-echo simulation. I believe I'll be keeping it even though I am on the list for the Timeline...
On the cheaper side, I also happen to dig the Boss RE-20 Roland Space Echo, I deem it to be too often overlooked.
During the last months, I have sold a Boss DM-2 and a Boss DD-3. The DM-2 is, in any case, a great delay for short and dark slapbacks and can easily oscillates.
I am looking forward to hearing the EQD Dispatch Master, which seems very promising and has reverb too (it may replace my old Boss RV-3 which is still lying around my house...)
