Favorite Delay & Why

I've never played a standard MB, but after owning the DMB for awhile it seemed to have a much more usable spectrum of modulation as compared to the MB which seemed to go from normal to crazy waaaay too quickly. For the price overall, it's a great sounding delay with a ton of cool features. The FX loop was one of my favorite things to mess around with on the DMB, sounds awesome with a fuzz especially.

+1 - Orbit + flanger hoax in the fx loop, and exp pedal control of feedback was endlessly entertaining the last time I played around with the DMB.

They are miles away. As someone who has owned both at the same time, I can say that they sound nothing alike. The DMM is my all-time favorite analog delay....... the MB sounds like rubbish in comparison. The MB is pretty good for wacky sounds using the modulation.

I think that you may be overstating this a bit ... granted, it's tough to depend on youtube vidz, but the direct head-to-head comparison vids I've seen, they sound close enough that it's not huge. I currently own a DMB, and it's been a couple years since I've played a DMM. But there's not a terribly huge difference in the sound quality that I noticed.

I don't know what difference there is between the DMB and the MB (if any), but I can definitely hear the difference between the two in those videos. It's more pronounced in person. The DMM is warmer and the modulation is lush (gotta use those cliche gear tone catch-words), and the repeats on MB have a little more high end on the repeats, but not clarity like a digital delay, still has an analog feel. He's also spot on with the modulation of the MB. There is a wider range, but it gets a little too crazy for my test. The MB always felt like a delay that midfi would make if they were to make a bit more "normal" sounding delay with how wacky that modulation can get.

But again, no experience with the DMB. That's one I always wanted to try, but never had the chance.

I'll agree with you that the repeats on the DMB are a bit brighter than the DMM. I just don't think that it's such a big difference that I would say they are nothing alike or call either one rubbish in comparison with the other, regardless of which you prefer.

Ok, you've got a point. Rubish was a little harsh. All I'm trying to say is that delay is probably my favorite type of effect, and out of all the delays I've owned the MB was my least favorite and got rid of it the quickest.

I like my DD-20. Loved the Headrush II and the Stereo Memory Man with Hazari that I used to have, and I'm still kicking myself for not keeping them. Don't know if I really like the Echoplex I have that much as its kind of a pain. As a preamp its tits though.

the DMB is one of my favourite delays as well. the modulation is truly crazy, you can make it change delay time/pitch by its own built-in lfo thingy.

i also really like the digidelay. great for its price, and i have a way of turning it into a bitchrush delay/looper.

How does one achieve this bitcrushing delay of which you speak? My Digidelay has been pretty neglected since I got my 616.

I have a DMM (old version, big chassis) which has been heavily modded a couple of months ago (delay up to 700 ms, reverb mod, clearer repeats).

I really, really love it. Now I do not need to look any further re: analog delays.

Who did the mods for you?

Been offered a trade straight up for the Muff.

DD5 is one of my babies. It's a little longer delay than the DD3 and not as feature packed as the DD7. It is a simple delay and I love the 2 second sample/hold where I keep it by default and the reverse mode. The reverse does not allow you to go full wet (meaning it always has the original guitar sound mixed in) but that's what I like about it. In that mode you can do awesome pitchshifting warps while still playing cleanly through it. And Analog Man has some cool mods like a dry killswitch to fix that if you wish.

I don't know which Muff you're thinking of trading, I wouldn't trade a hard to get vintage muff but if it's a currently available model, I'd flip it for the DD5 in a hot minute.

it involves soldering two pins on one of the chips inside the pedal. i went to far with mine a few years ago and now it doesnt work at all, but for those few weeks it was really great.

The guy running T-Pedals is called Alberto, he's Italian. Don't know if you've ever heard of him and/or his fuzz boxes (e.g. the T-Fuzz).

He has installed a 3-way switch in the direct out (which I have never used), replaced some components, checked the circuit and added the mods.
Now the delay can be longer, is airy and I can choose to add a beautiful touch of reverb...

DD-20 was definately cool, but it seemed a little bland to me... few boss pedals aren't like that, it just seemed like a... too many features and different sounds in one unit

i've always thought that i KNOW about my delay preferences... as the time passes by, i'm not sure any more but i totally love Wampler Faux Tape Echo i hope someone will trade my pedals at B/S/T for Boss RE-20, that could be a cool comparison...
