C'mon, man. You can't just go around saying "Oh, yeah, you should try a Laney Klipp, give that a shot." It's a level of unobtanium so high for most of us that we can't even see it.

The Traynor YBA-200

Loud and nice sounding with a few tweaks.
Also not overly expensive.

Swap the 6550s to Winged Cs and put TAD 12AX7s in the pre and it is great.

  Yeah, I guess so, I am a lucky bastard. I forgot the somewhat affordable, like 400-500 price range.

well then, ahem...
old Yamaha B100 head or B100-115SE combo, a huge solid state combo. Has a very nice and warm low end and nice crunch from the treble. Rocks hard! And isn't too expensive.

AND if You're waiting for the Santa Claus to appear with the Klipp, there is, of course, the Faustone option, You know :idk: http://faustone.com/ if one is after the Klipp sound. Just saying. I'm GASsing for one myself even if I already have the real thing.

I was lucky in most awesome way. I paid for it less than... let's make a few conversions... yeah, about 150.00. US$ Did that make You feel better? No? Damn, but hey - it was worth a try, sorry. :p :p :p

Back then in the early 90's hardly anybody seemed to be too enthusiastic about tube amps OR Black Sabbath :idk: and I was lucky enough to have this gear-wise educated guy in the band, old enough to share my enthusiasm. When we saw those amps tugged back in the store corner away from 'better' products, we watched each other and smiled. My band managed to get TWO of them - for me and the guitarist - and a guitar cab for meager 350.00 US$. :whoa: Fully operating units, with only a few minor dings, really only needed new tubes. The store owner gave free cables and helped carrying the cab in the van, unmistakably HAPPY to get rid of the gear. AND the sound guys hated us on tour in Finland for using them, because they are obscenely loud AND I used fuzz with bass guitar, decidedly refusing to play through the DI boxes they offered everywhere, suggesting them with ALL professional seriousness imaginable 'for far better and cleaner bass sound, with clear trebles and a lot more dynamic low end response'. :erm:    Just what the fuck were they thinking?

Something I have always wondered about why are bass amps so much more expensive than guitar amps?

I saw this picture of Hendrix, all he used was a wah.... And not even the Jim Dunlop Jimi Hedrix wah, just some old thing.....
Jimi didn't realise the horrible tone suck we had to listen to every time he used that wah.

A good amplifier will support both instruments beautifully. Take the v1 Model T, the Electric VU180 or an old OR120 or Matamp of the same era.

The split of amp types occurred when engineers discovered that they could push more watts effectively (which is what the big bass signal needs) with solid state. At first it was expensive to make this transition but after only a few years it became cost effective.

Since then a good bass amp runs about the same price as a good guitar amp and that price is whatever you are willing to pay to achieve whatever you want to sound like.

I meant modern amps. I really want a Bassman and 2x15 to use for both.

Entombed used bass amps for down tuned guitar. Lemmy always used Marshall guitar amp for bass. A lot of old tube amps never had dedicated bass and guitar models, just the model that You used for the instrument You used. :idk:
