Yeah for my first set I figured I should go cheap to try it out. Now I am wishing I had picked up some rotosounds.

I usually just buy GHS because they are made in michigan

I use Chromes the most and then Thomastik Infeld, I like Ernie Ball and I don't mind Fender.

Lakland Strings are the best, IMO, you can get them from their website. Or DR's are pretty good, I like Rotosoudns but their strings are only partially wound not %100, so watch out!

GOOD LAWD ONE SET IS $40. They seem to be nice strings but no way can I justify spending that much. $20 is bad enough. Guitarists aren't even allowed to whine about string prices

Tension should be the same given the gauges are the same. Depending on how the windings are set up one might be stiffer over the other. TI is the only wild card when it come to tension because they have padding/dampening material between the winding raps like double bass strings do so even though they are big in diameter they are low tension. You can get chromes in high tension i.e bigger gauges, the set I have on my V has a 110 E to make up for the short scale, on a 34" that string is really tight.

Im used to it I think the precision flats were $31

Yeah Ti jazz flats are about $60 most of the time.

My big string score once was at American Music in Seattle, they had a box of singles for a buck a piece and I got llike 5 or 6 Chromes B strings so I only had to buy four string sets for a few years

And That was a Big deal! Fucking D'addario doesn't make a full 5 set in the sizes I like so I have to get singles which costs more and B strings are over $10 a lot of the time

Still it's better then DB stings were a fucking B string can cost $75 and up and up

I feel like a 'tard if only I had tried flats at least! 5 years ago
I have been on a specific tone search for about 5 years and the flats got me there

if you want to go even farther in the direction from roundwound to flatwound, you might try nylon tape wound flatwound bass strings. they're not common these days, but Fender currently makes them and they're orderable. run clean they're extremely bottom-heavy, and were originally intended for electric bassists substituting for double-bassists; i haven't used them in years, but i bet they'd be nicely balanced with a butt-load of fuzz.

I may pic some of those up for shits and giggles the closest music store to my place sells the fender nylon tape strings.
im assuming the core is some sort o metal but how do magnets pic up nylon?

I've been kicking around the idea of putting flats on my Jazz Bass for some time now. Just haven't pulled the trigger.
