flat wound

I am about to get a new set o strings and im toying with the idea of flat wound.
so I have a few ?s
is there a "break in" period? my band is playing our first show on Thursday and I want to be sure that they will not change tone too much.
chords? I play lots of chords on my bass and was wondering if anyone else has noticed differences between flat and round for this.
Harmonics? I play lots of Pinch harmonics and am curious as to how this sounds with flats.

Depends on the make.

Cromes take about a month, I use harmonics all the time...

I love Rotosound flats. For me the break in period is only a few days, but pinch harmonics could be a bit stifled. Chords, though, sound really nice and even (to me) with minimal sustain.

I have a set of Roto flats that are actually easier to get harmonics on than some rounds. So nice.

Well I pick up some GHS precision flats before my band practice and
I wish I had tried out flats YEARS ago
seriously fuck round wound strings
my bass was growling all night long

They might feel a little sluggish, like they hang on your fingers for a while, but that goes away with use. I want to try another set of flats too.

When you go back to rounds you'll have to constantly watch out for finger noise.

I wont go back.
My bass sounds the way I want it to now.
I should have known when I realized that I am not ever happy with my strings until they start to die

Dunno why it didn't set in before but that just made me realize...

I never actually think "man I need to change my strings". I'm not big on the sound of fresh strings for my own playing and for a long time now my tone pots have been more "closed" than "open". So...why not just use flats? I'll definitely have to get some after Christmas.

flats are sooo awesome. i haven't changed my strings on my bass in so long i like, forgot what strings are on them.

flats just get better and better with time. i don't think i'll ever change them again.

I refuse to use anything but Rotosound Flats on my bass. I love them.

I think I've had the same set on my bass for about a year.

They're monstrous with fuzz as well.

on my 5-string i still have the set of chromes I put on there for jazz band about 5 years ago...
