As far as a Big Muff, it's a classic. In my opinion, every fuzz player should have at least one incarnation of a BMP around - even if not on their board. You can snag them used for $40-$50 every day, so it's a small investment for a good pedal.

If a Rat is the dirt sound you want, go for it. They're solid pedals, and do what they do very well.

What currently produced Rat is closest to the vintage ones? How much does a nice vintage Rat go for?

You can find the 90's Big box reissues for around $100. I've tried a few Rat 2's, a 90's, Turbo, and an old whiteface Rat. And a couple Lovekraft Chupacabra.
Out of those, whiteface was the best. 2nd was the Chupa, and then 90's. I don't know what it is, but they can vary in tone from box to box. The best thing is to find one that works and sounds good for you and KEEP IT!
I kick myself everyday for selling that whiteface. I think I got it for like $75.
It was thicker, tighter and the best low gainer of the bunch. I'd also suggest the Hotcake. It's close to a Rat but has more bass and is more transparent. Nothing in my experience stacks or feedbacks like a Rat though.

Thanks for the advice I am really interested in the SUF Pumpkin Pi, but first I think I'm either going to go with the Rat or the Arc Flash which would you honestly take over the other? The AF is a lot cheaper and can get more fuzz then the RAT, but idk. What are your guys' opinions?

I've been meaning to try the Arc Flash, cause from the sounds of it it does beat out the Rat. Buuutt I got both my 90s Rats for $40 and $50. I'd check craigslist for a cheap rat.

You could always do what I did: get a cheap Rat 2, rehouse it and put the Reutz mod on a pot.

Is the rehouse really necessary?

how much wouLd the mod cost I'm not to good with a soldering iron so I wouldn't trust myself yet. Also, well the rat I was looking at was from the 80's and had the lm308 chip (I think that's what it is) but does that make a hide difference? Also how does the turbo Rat stack up against the regular Rat? I look into the hot cake

I listen to the same bands as you and I use a blackout effectors musket , which can pretty much cover almost anything (including juts a more straight forward distortion sound). I actually don't think any youtube video does that pedal justice to what it actually sounds like.
A lot of what you play will depend on your amp though, what are you going to use it through? Also, isn't there a new Devi Ever 90s pedal? Have you looked into that?
That being said, I'm sure you can't go wrong with a vintage or modded Rat.

I would be running it through a Sovtek Mig 60, and do you know the name of the Devi pedal?

I sold a Rat2 with Reutz mod for like $60 shipped a month or two ago.
This thread is making me regret doing that.
