That Grabber is indeed very nice I've always wanted one of those..or a Ripper (atleast, I think that's what it's called...the one with three single-coils?) Oh and, to answer your question, all of my gear is less than 5 years old..except for what I believe is an 80's TS-9 that I thought might be worth something..until I realized it was dead as a doornail probably my fault...

You're thinking of the Gibson G-3, which technically is a Grabber. The Ripper has two humbuckers. And, really, you can't go wrong with any of them. But, actually, I hear the G-3's single coils are kinda low output compared to the ballsy pickups of the Grabber and Ripper.
I did have an EB3- some thing an SG with 2 single coils and switches. It was ok but not great. I wish they would make an ES 125 or ES 135 bass now that would be awesome.

Ah ok...yea the G-3, then. I've only seen/heard it once, but Phil Keaggy has one and it sounds awesome...could just be because it's in the hands of one of my favorite guitarists, though He does a brief demo of it on his Philly LIve! DVD
That just proves that in the "right" hands almost anything will work, I think too many musicians spend too much time dissing instruments that just don't work for them. I do it too to a extend but mainly I just do it to get a rise after everyone has a go at the stuff I like
Also, Mike Dirnt used to play a G-3 really early on in Green Day. Whereas, QOTSA's current bass player plays a Ripper, and Brian Cook from Botch/TAAS/Russian Circles has played some sort of Grabber for most of his career. Also, this.
