I think lordgalvar got one of those and wasn't too impressed. :snax:

Also, good price on an early V1 Randy's Revenge w/ just a broken switch?

just came across this statement on the interwebz: "A great audio example of classic RingMod is the soundtrack to Forbidden Planet. IIRC 90% of it is 2 sine generators (using incandescent bulbs!) and a Ring Mod, tuning the oscillators by hand."

going to do some more research to see how close this comes to the truth, but taking it for granted and listening to the main title music generated a very strong feeling of wanting to dig deeper into my various ring/balance mod processors in '22 (so what else is new) :snax: :joy:

wait, is there more than 1 version of the Randy's? didn't know about that. It's on a components level? interface -wise they always looked the same :idk:

yeah, the switch-over from v1 to v2 was pretty early on
Chank knows more about it than me - i think v2s are cleaner and with less bleed maybe? :idk:
oh, and i seem to dimly remember hearing that the v2s can go full-wet on the blend while the v1s can't?
but maybe i'm just making that shit up :hobbes:

I think the first 1,000 or so are V1. :idk: Then Guillaume redesigned it. I guess it was a complicated build.

Not sure if there's necessarily less bleed (probably), but V1s are definitely a little warmer. I can't remember about the blend either (and I only have a V1 here with me now). :idk:

V2s defintely have more functionality (CV and programming choices) and a greater range though.

It is a DBA Space Ring that Dino modified the circuit for some more functionality.

Same thing as the deadendfx PCBs...different layout.

It is a fun pedal. Don't know if I agree with the way dude marketed it though (no mention of the lineage). Would rather give have the deadend (which I still have to cut sheet metal for, but have both and the original DBA).

Studio ModMax? That one is ok...kind of too much at the same time with all the envelope, LFO and a kind of CV bus going on. It wants a hot signal though (semi-annoyingly). It is looking for what feels like something over line level. It is a diode ring mod too and probably more useful in the box than the lovetone (with way less CV options).

The new CG XR-1E is a blast though. The sample and hold controlled by envelope is some much fun! Each time I hit the string, new randomized rate tremolo! Which can be modified by an LFO. The jack placement is no fun though, but I do like the external foot switch jack...opens up some possibilities.
