Marshall DSL40CR for a Dude like me? (Fine, I got an Orange)

Post by Deltaphoenix »

Hola Fuzz Fam!
I recently made a guitar purchase; a little shocked on what I landed on. What happened is that I am on a ton of Zoom/WebEx/Teams meetings or whatever and I start to daydream about being a shred guitar god. So, I finally said to myself fine, get a damn guitar and get this over with...you're an alright bass player who enjoys farting around with modular synths.
I looked at Floyd Rose guitars, got real about not dealing with that and somehow landed on a Pueblo Pink EBMM Mariposa. So sexy but so much for trying to spend ~$650 but absolutely no more than a $1000 if it is just an amazing deal plan
So, now - I do need to keep it chill and get a decent combo amp but not break the bank.
I am looking for a tube amp that can be loud enough but not overly loud & basically has an easy button for getting a decent recording sound. I don't have to have the best cleans so passable will work - I am wanting good baked in gain tones so my pedals mini-fuck and fuzzes can push it to the next level. So, I guess a quasi-pedal platform.
The Marshall DSL40CR looks to be a solid choice. Should I consider anything else? I will say the Orange Rocker 32 is calling to me - I like the idea of a stereo rig, stereo fx loop (plug a poly synth in too) - if it had that easy button for recording; I would probably fold and spend more than I should again. I am really trying to stick to the budget guidance that I was attempting to apply to the guitar spend ~$650 but absolutely no more than a $1000 if it is just an amazing deal.
Thanks!

Mesa Boogie F-50 or F-30. Plenty of gain. Silent recording out. Definitely better than the Marshall.

Cool suggestion - thanks. I have had fun playing 400/400+ Mesas on bass. Although I didn’t gel with the Strategy, it’s eq just didn’t work for me, IDK. I tried owning one twice.
I will check these out.

I could not shake the possibilities of the Rocker 32’s stereo fx loop so I got one for a decent price.

I have no idea about amps. Get something that goes good clean and then get an Elements and shred till ya ded.

I support this thread.

Bro, thanks Goroth! I think about getting an Element again every few months but that is exactly what the clean channel in the Orange needs. That EQ + Distortion will be perfect.

Just watched a demo. Looks like a pretty sick amp! Seems like with even just a TS into that OD channel you could get some pretty shredding tones. The key to learning to shred is to get a tone that makes all your notes sick. Then practising scales and shit over and over doesn't get boring because you're still essentially making rad noises.

I have a mini fuck (plus FUZZES) sitting here, ready to nail this amp. We’ll find the good shred toanz (and fuzz and doom and weird ambient tones too).

I kind of wish Marshall’s were still cool.... like imagine if they had just kept making JCM800’s? Give the people what they want! They used to be the sound of rock and now they are the sound of hourly rehearsal spaces....

For real. I can play a blast beat at 240 bpm using DM1 on my phone, set the gain to “fuck you” and palm mute scales all day. Feels like I’m in Cryptospy.
