Re: Are we gonna talk about this Boss SY1000?
Whoa... whoa whoa whoa to the whoa... nobody smack talked the GR-55 ever. I would love one of those.
The 'just get a synth' argument comes from there being much more capable synths on the market for less. The synths that are more capable and cost less also have more knobby interfaces. This is not the case with Max/MSP to modular comparison. Modular bros are paying more for more materials. Sort of like like a square can be a rectangle a rectangle cannot be a square.
This also did not sound like synthesis to me in the demos. Just high end modeling. The GR-55 was like a bukkake video in how apparent it was as a next level synth pedal with a unique synth engine. Like a bukkake video... it's hard to mistake it for what it is.
I stand by what I said... that said I ahve to a duty to my anime overlords so... I will probably get one.
EDIT 1: Also take what I say with a grain a of salt as, like @dandolin... I have spent an alarming amount on "cheap" synth pedals and workarounds

Re: Are we gonna talk about this Boss SY1000?
Hey, grain of salt with my opinions too, since I only have cheap, old keyboards and analog synths (CS01II and monotribe) and maybe hook my MS20 controller up to a soft synth if I want something more. All my synth-y pedals are also analog octavers from Parasit Studio. Use all this to play simple melody/basslines and there is no need for me to have an SY1000.
BUT, I'm sure it's a massively powerful and worth-it tool in someone else's hands. I just imagine it has many glossy anime toanz on tap (which I do love) and maybe isn't as immediate as a keyboard w/ lots of sliders and knobs (I've played digital ones that were quite user-friendly tho). Probably there's a bunch of playability in a guitar synth that I'm just not used to.
Plus yeah, the demos of these things always sound cheesy as hell. Reign in the bluesy shit and play it like a chill keyboardist or computer would
No. Don't even tip the sunglasses.

PS-MF just bailed on the 15%. I mean, they were gonna' give it to me (from two different reps I spoke to) but then since it's not out yet they called back and bailed. Crap.

These things are for those who either *want* that cheesy shit (yes, those folks exist) or to simply tell the rest of us it's out and to look into it.
The baseline sounds in these videos are the patches included typically as a starter - but once you start screwing with the options that will be presented, hijinks will ensue.
Keep in mind this is the 55 editor (where you have two of these synth engines per patch, independent - can pan or only use certain strings for one or both as well, etc), and have the vguitar (which includes the old standard GR-300 modeller that's very decent if you want analogy-weird).
Many, many virtual knobs to tweak and screw with, and it goes very deep from that fast.
Give me the newer GT-1k stuff with it, and an improved engine?
Hell yes.

@frodog - Salt Brothers! We have similar taste in gear!
@rfurtkamp - Thanks for posting! Gives context in "what could be".
More salt - I actually don't practice the just get a synth rule... my most recent purchase was a synth pedal. My next purchase is going to be the RMA Stone Splitter

Changing the direction of this thread. Let's pretend we're all on the same page with the this pedal. Unanimously everyone wants it and wants to make free jazz from hell. Would you prefer this OR GR-55? Yes, technically one person is the only one capable of answering this question.

Re: Are we gonna talk about this Boss SY1000?
Sam Ask just gave me 16% so I've got two on order. I'll keep them both out there in case anyone else wants one and can't get the discount. We'll see which one gets here first!$harkToootth wrote:Dealing with a similar situation at work. Pay right away at a locked in price. Good stuff @shikawkee. I can always divert shipping to someone if they want one of them.
