I've never owned or played a Tonebender, and this is the only Tonebender clone I have ever owned, but I'm quite happy with the way it injects fuzzy goodness into my gray matter.pigmaker wrote:now that i have found my godlike, glistening phallus of an alpha fuzz face...

MKI: jerms, pigdog loony, pigdog electric eye
In that order. Good luck.
I have not Really much experience with zonks. Somehow i think they are too trebly MKIs. So no advice from my side.

yeah jerms stuff is badass. someone had a jerms companion up on reverb for 250 and i hesitated and it was gone quick. that seems like a great price.univalve wrote:MKI: jerms, pigdog loony, pigdog electric eye

buffalo fx germanium fuzz v1. he only made 50 because he could only get so many B175 transistorsMechaGodzilla wrote:which is it?pigmaker wrote:my godlike, glistening phallus of an alpha fuzz face...
i got a good-to-great price on it.
i could only find one other instance of it being up for sale online, an old reverb posting, so i jumped on it.
v1 smokes the newer v2 and v3, not even close.
love that it has a bias knob also.
just sounds huge. slays every muff i've ever had in that way. power chords just sound unbelievable. i'm totally into the idea of making it my only rhythm guitar sound, and i'm saying this after my last recording project which had somewhere between 30 and 50 guitar tracks without using the same tone twice.
i'll shut up now. i'm sure you can tell that i'm in love.
this guy doesnt play any power chords, or that many chords generally, but you can hear how it sounds on leads.
as i said earlier it's the best fuzz face i've ever heard, but obviously that's just my opinion, i havent heard a million of them

A couple others that come to mind:
Red Witch Fuzz God II: a more useable, less finnicky fuzz face.
Zvex Mastotron: packs a dangerous amount of low end. Literally. It'll damage yer speakers or amp if you don't watch out. Not to be used in front of small children.
My current swiss army fuzz: Clusterfuzz. Versatile as fuck, can do anything ranging from doom/sludge/stoner to classic rock.

Clusterfuzz is SUPER versatile. Love that fuzz. Great company too.

i would almost say that, if you have a fuzz face you *love* with a powerful bias knob, you probably don't necessarily need any mk1/2, fz1, etc. coz they can do all that imo
