I was finally able to take mine for a test drive earlier today and discovered a couple of issues: 1) Prominent self-oscillation or clock noise when the depth switch is in the down position and depth knob is above 1:15. 2) Intermittent crackling when using the latching switch for momentary applications or disabling the envelope follower after having it engaged for longer periods (circuit rebiasing or cold solder?). I'm using an isolated power supply. Do these sound like normal operation to other Futura users?
Hey, I’m Efren, the designer of Paradox Effects, glad you asked about this. The self-oscillation click you describe is intentional, when the depth switch is downward, at minimum envelope signal (or not playing your instrument at all) the circuit generates a "glitch" or "vinyl scratching setting", and once you attack the instrument, you make the BBD enter the "chorus/vibrato" operation point, that was the purpose and the whole idea on that feature.
On your second concern, I’ll need to check more details, but please send an email to
contact@paradoxeffects.com and I can look into this a bit better, because the switch makes a subtle "switching noise" but it’s not really really loud, regardless hope you are enjoying the pedal!
