Kinda quiet in here. I'll leave this then, my latest build, a Fugu PCB. The lowest gain of PN2222A I had, were around 215-220, recommended was 150-200.
Sounds great nonetheless, I might try out other stuff in Q1-3, though.

It's the first time I tried "waterslide decal" instead of "photo transfer potch" to dress up the box. Worked pretty well.
As usual, the box is a bit bigger than it needed to be, mainly so that I can put big knobs on it, but I also like the extra working space on the inside.

Nice job on the Fugu! You could also try 2N5551 as well. They tend to be in the low gain range.

Lola Phase (Mutron BiPhase clone) is finally validated. and it sounds FREAKIN' AWESOME!! They call it the phaser lovers phaser for a reason. Anyway, here's my latest baby...

Not boxed up, but I made an opamp distortion out of a high end console opamp. It's different fo sho. Like the highs clip in a subtle way and it is real warm sounding. Runs at ± 15v, so a lot of headroom. A lot more subtle than I wanted, so next time I will add another pre hifi crunch gain source

While my daughter spent the weekend building things out of Lego, I built myself a Parasit Studios Raygun Youth fuzz kit.

I only had a brief chance to try it before the Superbowl started, but it sounds properly mad

Made a Sparkle Motion! I remember there was an issue with someone a while ago selling clones of this circuit, I don't have any plans to do that. Who would want this impractical, bordering-on-ugly box anyway? Well, I do, so that's why it exists.

Built pretty much 1:1, breadboarded it first and slightly skewed some resistor/pot values (IN is 250kB). Russian NOS MP38 transistor and big switch, housed in a pre-powdercoated enclosure which I painted with this spillover design from a computer mock-up. I dunno, it's awkward and unnerving to me hand painting enclosures, if I do it again I'll make some kind of recessed rig to hold the box and support my arms.

The sound - Now I've never tried a real SparkleMo, but from the demos I've heard this one doesn't get fuzzy except when pushed. I think these MP38 trannies are just lower gain than what's in the OG. It remains to run it through a suitably dirty amp, but the treble boost is there in spades. Bias control turned out to be pretty subtle. The full range mode is heavy. Excited to try it with different instruments/amps.

MP38s are usually below 50hfe.. I have a couple that are like 80.. you need a 404

Thanks dude! Yeah that was what I thought/read (that they're low-hfe), I just used what transistors I had and tried to pick out the highest gain one by ear. I don't have a tester yet, hopefully soon.
