Has there been a modern artist that just sends an exhibiting gallery a box full of (or maybe even just a list of) materials and instructions on how to make the piece of art, along with a price tag?? Not saying I remember this being a thing, I just feel like it has to have happened.

The Flaming Lips' Parking Lot Experiments/Boom Box Experiments/Zaireeka period kinda falls into this category, too. Dividing out tracks onto separate tapes, discs, what have you for listeners to reassemble for themselves.
yeah screw yoko ono's hammer nail painting, something like boyd rice and his off set albums or I think peter christopherson did that^ with a usb album, peter from ciat lonbarde has done exhibits where the wall is a paper circuit and your suppose to go up to it and fiddle...much better than, ''okay now.. everyone spit on this canvas.. and by the end of the week it will be framed'' and sold for 99,000,000.
