All pedals I own and acquired for cheap. Category 1. This totals $158 (There is a Metal Zone under the post-it note
I just rebranded it). You can spend the remaining $342 on tide pods and/or Arby's.

My kinda game. I could easily get by with a small >$300 board, anything over that falls in the GAS category...
Ibanez DE-7: $40
Boss RV-3: $80
HM-2/Rat/Muff/Microamp (depending on yer band/style): >$100
Guyatone ST-2 (SERIOUSLY underrated comp): $40
Bad stone or DOD FX20 if there's need for modulation, or maybe one of them tiny Mooer-type peds. Can be had for less than $50.

Okay, I'll play.
I have all of these:
Moen Shaky Jimi vibe - $65, it has to go first in the signal chain or it will color your tone
FuzzHugger Velcrobot - $100 during last summer's ILF special (thank you TD!)
Danelectro French Toast - $35, because who doesn't need an octave fuzz?
DOD Bonshaker - $40, because it makes a good drive
Joyo Classic Flanger - $35
Fender Starcaster chorus - $15, I bought it in a Sam Ash bargain bin back in 2012
TCE HoF - $140
Boss DD6 - $65
Beer - $10
Grand total - $500

Here's a board I put together all at once, when I got my MiniBrute:
Boss SD-1: $35.63
Boss CH-1: $45.00
Boss BF-3: $50.00
MXR CC: $90.00
Boss DD-7: $100.00
TOTAL: $320.63 including tax and shipping
I have some other ultra budget dirt pedals that could be thrown in there that I already had:
DOD Death Metal: $35
Joyo Ultimate Drive: $41.40 (new)
DOD Boneshaker: $34.95 (new)
Unfortunately all my fuzz pedals are not cheapos. I should get some bargain basement fuzz pedals. I do have some I got for free or cheap new because of hookups or work trades, etc., but that wouldn't be fair to include.
I think my Dunwich Cthulhu Fuzz was $165 shipped when I got it. So that could probably sneak in and keep it under $500.

I didn't invest much money in equipment in 2017 and it turns out that all the pedals I bought can qualify for category 1!
The cheapest pedal was the Guyatone SD2 (£15), a strange compressor that sounds a bit like 'Sometimes' by MBV. The best value overall was the Zoom MS-50G, I think, at about £80. The Ammoon Spring Reverb is quite interesting and is supposedly a Malekko clone! I think that was about £20.

Maybe it's a problem of not being in the US for me, but - where on this sweet earth are you finding these this cheap?? + Point me in that direction please!
And in that case, I'll take 6x Rv-3's + a pizza.

I suck at currency conversions, I just checked it, and now I'm pretty sure $80 isn't really that realistic. 100-110Euro should be enough to find you a RV-3 in the EU though, still a hell of a deal imo.kralc wrote:Invisible Man wrote:Pitchfactor: $275Dope, dope.frigid midget wrote: Boss RV-3: $80

My b for neglecting this thread
After these messages I will clarify the idea as its developed and edit op:
At no point do you need to buy anything, it can be hypothetical yet backed by...actual market performance, logistics and all that.
BUT scoping deals in b/s/t is recommended, esp if buying from me.
Always buy my things.
Goods so good make you say "keep the change and stay owned in your own thread" like challenge accepted.

The new rule is fewer rules.
Create your own category if you like, challenge yourself and show off a well-actualized vision. 1up your pal like anything you can do~
If you have a complicated rack or tabletop setup what are some stepped down, even spartan rigs you might put together, attempting to impose restriction with minimal or maximum concession. Go for it.

Re: Penny-pincher budget boards/setups - a spinoff, a challe
$30 - Fabtone
$100 - RV-3
$120 - DL4
= $250 total
I could do this all day with Boss delays, EHX and MXR. Throw in some overstocked $40 Digitech pedals. Yeah, it doesn't take a whole lot to get some interesting tools.
Threads like these are bad for my brain. If I can put together a cool rig for $500 then why did I spend much more on all this extra stuff? This is what triggers downsizing. Well, these thoughts and the rad BILF small category of tasty choices on one small palette.

Re: Penny-pincher budget boards/setups - a spinoff, a challe
Provided inbound Chinese minis and clones are fully functional, I should be able to assemble a diverse gazey-doom board for under 5 bills.
Current and evolving list of candidates for the signal chain include (all purchased new, some during sales):
Digitech Luxe $45
DOD 201 Phasor $38
DOD 410 Bifet Boost $44
Kokko Phaser $40
Mooer E-lady $60
Valeton OC-10 $60
Valeton Red Haze $50
Valeton Dark Tale $33
Xvive Memory $79
If the $35 Eno Octaver didn't pop so loudly when engaged and disengaged, it would have also made the list. I still need to find a decent budget envelope filter to add to the mix. The $49 Valeton Katfish is okay at best, and the Lovepedal Rubber Chicken I got for $56 during a flash sale is too noisy when placed before gain sources.
