Okay, so, Ben Hoga, do you only listen to music with bass players who use a compressor, an HM2 (very specific) and an octaver? Or how do reckon that this setup is all anyone needs? This goes for anyone really in this thread who claims "x, y and z is all you need". And also, it's all you need, for what? I'm bewildered.

It really doesn't matter. The idea of open or closed minded when it comes to the tools you work with is stupid on both sides.
Get get what you need to do the job you need. If you need a lot of sounds because that is what is required for what you are playing. do that.
If all you need is a fucking chord. do that.
