Adding feedback loop to Deluxe memory man, can it be done?

Post by D Rock »

So everyone knows that runaway oscillation is sick. I want this on a footswitch so I don't have to bend down everytime and play with knobs.

I know that I can build a feedback loop in a separate pedal, which wouldn't be a bad option as I could have delay tails come through even when the send is off. However I think it would be even sicker to have this right inside the pedal. From everything I have read I only need a 500k Audio taper pot and a normally closed momentary switch. I think I could just wire this between the input and output and I would be golden, my only concern is I have heard that the DMM reverses phase. With that said, will this be a problem?

I plan to base everything off this schematic. Obviously if going in the pedal I would be omiting quite a bit, like the 3pdt swtich and I doubt I will mess with the power section, the led is not that important.

Should I just go with the pedal build and still have a momentary switch for oscillation runaway? Delay tails would be very nice, I can't stand turning the delay off and it killing everything. Any thoughts on this? Am I missing anything huge here?

Which memory man do you have? If this is a big box one, why not flip it for one of the ones with tap tempo? Those have a feedback function already as well as a thousand other bells and whistles. No tails, though...

I wouldn't mod it. If you don't want to flip it, then make a little utility pedal to try out these ideas. Then you won't have to mod the pedal and you'll still get to try out those ideas. Then, in the future you can still do it if you like it. And if it ends up not working you won't have drilled a bunch of holes in a big box DMM.

I don't think getting tails out of your little utility box will be as simple as you've described? I don't know enough to explain why, though...

There is one way you can get tails by putting whatever pedal you want in a effects loop with a pot for feedback. All you have to do is wire your 3pdt so that the return loop stays open.

It is a big box and while I am against modding it in some ways, I would never sell it and it won't leave my board. I think if done correctly it would be super nice, I have a few extra momentary soft switches on the way(just like infinity looper or moogerfooger switches), and with some careful drilling in the right spot. Pot to adjust feedback would be on the side.

I know you are probably right and I shouldn't mod it, but this would be the sickest mod everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I was looking into loopers with tails lately too -- although apparently it works, a passive solution isn't especially advised. Slap this in the old Google machine:

Came here to post the same thing as SLM. Hoping to do this for a bunch of time-based pedals that don't have trails (but should!).
The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents.

Word thanks for the feedback SLM. The first result is exactly the type of looper/feedback pedal I need to build but I'm afraid it is a bit over my head at the moment. More incentive to learn I suppose. Now I'm thinking I will surly build some sort of pedal feedback looper first to experiment with before I go modding any pedals. I still think it would be sick if done correctly(dmm style knob on side, nice momentary switch), but it is still a bit over my head.
