Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Muffs are almost always under $100 used. For that you get a muff with a Parametric EQ, a gate (although not a splatty fuzz-style gate) and a few additional bells and whistles.

Also, I like the Digitech Hardwire reverb and delay pedals, and those are usually under $100 used as well.

And the Boss Mega Distortion - usually about $65 new.

Also, Devi Ever Fuzzes, and most types of Boss modulation.

I've heard several people say it's a Colorsound Overdriver/Power Boost. Can kinda hear that in it, and makes sense with the name, but no idea if it's actually true. One of my students has one, it's a killer little box.
Yeah, I've read that a Colorsound circuit might be the inspiration for the Crayon and there's also speculation that it might be based on Xotic's BB Preamp.

My board is dominated by fuzz and distortion units and the only other dedicated overdrive pedal I have is the Moog MF Drive. The Crayon is much more focused sounding and I prefer the EQ controls. I imagine there must be countless other pedals that can produce a similar sound but it's readily available and very well priced.

Yeah, when I heard/saw one of those in actions...I immediately thought "if that came in a nify looking enclosure from one of the favourite ilf bouteek brands, the in-crowd would be all over that like flies on a fresh turd.

Now it can be found in bargain bins for the price of a six pack :idk:

Gotto admit though, I never picked one up either. Probably should sooner or later.

I have both the Blue Box and Phase 90. Both great but you need a clean boost with the Blue Box. It has a nasty volume drop but it sounds great. I read that Buzz Osborne used one with a Rat, which DOD supposedly replicated with the BuzzBox ...
Yeah, I think that's how I first heard of the Blue Box-because Buzz used one. Pretty sure the Blue Box/Rat is the Bullhead/Eggnog tone.
I have a modded Blue Box that fixes the volume drop issue, and also allows for more treble, and a toggle switch to choose 1 octave down or 2 octaves down. I fucking love that pedal-All Blue Boxes should be like that.

That sounds fucking awesome actually. One last thing though, and probably not fixable with a small mod..The fuzz is pretty weak by itself imo. Thin, not too gainy...:idk: Dunno, maybe there was an issue with the one I had :idk:

Did you do the mod yourself or did you pay a company to do it ...

Don't know who did the mod, unfortunately. I got the pedal from an I Love Fuzz guy here (ThurberMingus), and didn't ask him about that.
