Otherwise, pretty cool and good answers in here. I'd do something combination of something self oscillating, something going down in octaves, something reverberating, something randoming, and lots of fuzz/distortion.

How has no one mentioned the Meatbox yet?

Moog filters, too. Noise + low freq osc + lpf.
The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents.

I knew you'd all deliver.
On mobile so I won't multi quote, but in a nutshell ring mods and octave/harmonisers were something I was considering.
They kinda make me think of like dwarven arcane miners, weirding their way through the earth.
Filters were also on my list for consideration, particularly that EQD interstellar orbiter.
I haven't played one but from the samples I may actually be starting to prefer it over phaser.
Will definitely check out all the suggestions later when I'm home and on PC.

Re: Recommend me effects that sound like the Earth
So it's taken me some time to go through this thread and suss out everyone's suggestions and I think I may have glossed over this as "wall of text...abort!" the first time. Not to be rude, but just because I knew I'd need to sit down and digest it.crochambeau wrote:The Earth, man, those are mighty big shoes to fill (looks, but doesn't find suitable Sideshow Bob clip).lordgalvar wrote:Drums.
(Or RMA)
Rolled highs, grainy middles, churning lows, non periodic seismic activity; no milky center, no lava lamp back rubs, just the sense of being slowly chewed up by uncut diamond teeth. I try to support digging into those corners, but for the most part the center point of range in the effect does not hover at the point I envision an ideal earth effect would inhabit.
Standard shape LFO are out, you need something that builds tension and slips out of joint, bringing the surroundings into the fold while doing so. Slowed down cracking of glass. An interactive LFO (soft synced to input) can help with the sense of organic, which is based in earth in my perception.
Fuzz obviously bridges a huge gap, so long as it's not geared toward top boost. I haven't been really leaning on tectonics as my aim (more of an accelerated erosion of the empty artifacts of civilization sort of wavelength lately) but I can certainly feed those thoughts into guiding the iron on a build. If anything here remotely comes close to your aim I'm happy to strive for further depths in the direction of your choice:

Probably toward the end on that, the swarming ants underneath the surface as opposed to the birds which eat them.

Guitar input starts around the 3:30 minute mark, apologies on both the length of the video and the quality of the recording (I can do a direct recording if it helps, but I'm still unable to support a video capture while doing so). Also, I was basically wanking on the tremolo aspect during the entire last half, though you can hear soil through some cracks.
Thanks for being awesomely comprehensive man.
I'm definitely still interested in some RMA stuff, but lately a bunch of shit has popped up that grabbed my attention. This whole sound like the planet thing is a recent thought I've had as well, so I'm still in very formative stages with it.
I know NOTHING about filters, by lately they've been popping up on my radar and starting to click with me. What would you suggest?
I did some very light, entry level research and pretty much fell in love with the Moog MuRF.
Would that be the sort of thing you were thinking of? Just because it seems fairly capable to me.
Is there anything like it that does something similar to what you were describing or should I be attacking this from a different angle?

Re: Recommend me effects that sound like the Earth
I'm not wholly versed on filters, most of what I have used personally is in the older range (like, full manual shit that sounds great but is useless for automation). That said, if it can take a CV input (or two, or three..) so you have another set of fingers nudging it it will be worth experimenting on.
Really raspy fuzz (or nasty ring mod, yeah!) into a low pass filter might put you under the earth, so to speak. Tons of great idea on this thread - ranging from externally observing planets crush through one another to planting your observation point well into the rocks.
I guess my big question is: how much of your playing and note recognition do you want in the end result? I think it'll be easier if you're just after being buried, probably want to support some splitting/parallel paths if you want your playing to remain legible.
Over all, I think splitting your signal and then tastefully recombining effected channels, plus some grimy low end material (perhaps through multiple VCAs that follow a bumpy or rough (not sine) voltage control) would be my recommendation, but it's a mess of parts and wires.
(edit: also, sorry about my writing skills, I just re-read that earlier post and have no idea what is wrong with me)
