Hey, here is a listen to the Sonic Crayon FX Anti-Nautilus with guitar. Mostly just going through the many cool things it does with the buffer and break knobs, and the differences between the 1/6 toggle settings. Did I already mention how much I love this thing? Cause i do, and alot

Re: UG demos Reel to Reel tape recorder as delay/lofi modula

Hey hey, thought you might dig this. Messing around with an Aiwa portable reel to reel tape recorder ran into a Montreal Assembly fewtility one mixer. Got things set up to turn the reel to reel into a delay. Recorded playing around on acoustic guitar and you can hear the delay, then I rewind and play back the recording and you can hear some really nice modulation and other niceties thanks to the condition of the machine and tape.

Hi there

I managed to get some time to put both Octave Drones together and my son played some riffs while I adjusted the knobs and switches, hope this gives you an idea of just how mangled the sounds can become! Tragically we didn't manage to pick up French radio as well, but that's probably a lack of the right atmospheric conditions.

:!!!: That's awesome, thanks for making that :thumb:
Octave drone is so mean i just love it, really like the mod you did too. Oh man, stacking octave fuzz is the best. There are a bunch of examples on my channel of me experimenting with different octave fuzz into one another. For awhile now running two Ibanez Standard Fuzz together has been a mainstay of my giggin rig.

I think the Creepy Fingers Harikari(super fuzz) into a Pink Elephant(ampeg scrambler) and vice-versa was the meanest sound I found, but I don't think they get as nasty as your two seppuku

I'm glad you like it :) I hadn't seen your demos - I didn't realise that this form of textural sound is caused by other octave fuzzes; I thought I just got lucky with the octave drone and it alone did this. I preferred the second of your two demos - I really like the way the sound sort of seethes into existence, almost like it's breathing through the fog of fizz and crackle.

Can I ask about your demo with the reel to reel tape recorder? Do you have to do something to the reel to reel to make it distort in that way? I've only experienced using a reel to reel once and it was over 20 years ago and I remember the sound being very warm and lovely (it was at a friend's home studio) but not warbling and distorted... or is that just a property of the model / tape that you own?

Yeah I know what you mean, i absolutely love those kinda textures :joy: Thinking about this kinda response brings the Mountainking Electronics Decomposer to mind, you might wanna check it out. I made a couple demos when I first got mine...here was my first sit down with it

it's quite the texture machine, and with all those toggles you're not likely to ever exhaust tonal possibilities haha

As far as that reel to reel goes, it's just getting a little long in the tooth plus that was some old and abused tape I used to purposely get effect with. It's possible to get a more "straight" recording with it, a really fine sounding unit for what it is, think I paid like $5 for it at some garage sale years ago. Some of those additional sounds on the playback were previous recorded material that didn't get fully erased or was maybe introduced by noise that its aging electronics introduced. Not sure if you heard it but that low frequency rumble was from the microphone sitting directly on the tabletop and picking up the units vibrations.

Wow, never heard of the Decomposer before, that is quite awesomely fierce in the right places. Thanks for explaining the tape distortion.

Thanks but that is sadly far too expensive for me :( Almost $300 US if you include postage, and if the customs people see it then another $60 on top for taxes... ouch...

Right on :thumb: Pretty much everything Mountainking makes is incredible, definitely one of my favorite builders.

having some weird posting problem?
Here's the info on the HEXE Guitar Electronics Revolver IIc with acoustic guitar. Just going through two of the Auto trigger modes. First is the Random Auto self triggering mode, then the second half is good ol regular Auto self triggering mode. That green light's up when its capturing samples.
